I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Three Things Thursday: 12th November 2015
Three things Thursday created by Nerd In the Brain says:”three things that make me smile: an exercise in gratitude – feel free to steal this idea with wild abandon and fill your blog with the happy”. Like laughter (take just … Continue reading
Our Mobility: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge
Being born before they invented these contraptions (not even seat belts were fitted in cars) the only seat restrainer I sat in was on the odd elephant ride. Sometimes though without restraint I felt like a horse running in a cloud … Continue reading
Weekend Coffee Share: Nov 7th 2015
If we “were having coffee” I’d say how my first week with the new puppy Muffin was going. She is gorgeous but the disruption to our normal schedule is immense. I didn’t go into my office all week and feel … Continue reading

Our mortal remains: 99 Word Flash fiction
Death and dying seems to have been a bit of a topic this week for me. Firstly I went to the conference on death, dying and the undead. That generated a few conversations. I recounted how I wanted my mortal … Continue reading
Straddling the Waters and recognising the value of voice.
Sometimes life seems to put you with a leg on either side of a chasm and it becomes hard to move in either direction as you straddle the abyss. My apologies for not replying to your comments ( I do … Continue reading
Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries of Various Types
What is a boundary other than a barrier to passing. These boundaries are set in many different ways and forms. Natural physical boundaries are obvious. In Greenland the icy water certainly discouraged any but the foolhardy from leaving the land. … Continue reading
99 Word Flash Fiction: Unwanted/Wanted
I’d wash my clothes at the seaside with the women. I’d learn to agitate them in the salty suds and beat them clean on the rocks. My clothes wouldn’t last long, but friendships would be forged with the women. Emi … Continue reading
