I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

The Cherry on top: Weekly Photo Challenge
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Especially after a day’s surfing. Salt water followed by ice cream – definitely the cherry on the top. In response to Weekly Photo Challenge.
Detail: Weekly Photo Challenge
From afar the wedding gown looked gorgeous to be sure but when viewed up close, the sewing detail still is good but the dust it has gathered over the years becomes visible. Or is it shadow? Perhaps I should only … Continue reading
Looking Up: Weekly Photo Challenge
Lying on the floor below the cuckoo clock and looking up I realise the lethal consequences that would befall should even one weight fall Whilst further up with serene patience for the time to turn, releasing the cuckoo to sing … Continue reading
Curves: Weekly Photo Challenge
Man replicates nature as best he can with curving archways bigger although not necessarily better Than the curves that naturally occur along river banks in animal life both in the past and in the present soft, huggable curves and curves … Continue reading
Numbers: Weekly Photo Challenge
It’s time to show some numbers so I figured if I could not calculate my figures correctly and read the blood pressure numbers lives would be put at risk which is of course why numbers are limited when it comes … Continue reading
Spare: Weekly Photo Challenge
Living in the bush we spared the life of many critters. Not only the wildlife but we also saved a number of our farm pets from the knackery, such as the miniature horse with the gammy leg. Despite its rear … Continue reading
Apology: Weekly Discover Challenge
Night shift was the hardest. Ralph would start drinking in the early afternoon, soon after starting his day. He expected me to sit with him. His jealousy extended to any activity which took me out of the room he was … Continue reading
Jubilant: Weekly Photo Challenge
We were jubilant the day our team won the tennis trophy for the season but too old even then to jump the net. Jubilation was felt by one and all when our progress group won the open Gardens community gardens … Continue reading
Faces of Hardship: Weekly Photo Challenge
Furrowing lines Show hardships endured Young faces pleading, resentful, longing their eyes say it all Border guards faces curled Yet some faces with inner peace Show the serenity they’ve found. In response to Weekly Photo Challenge
