I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Whether the weather be wet or fine: Weekly Smile
Australian meteorologists have a lot of trouble predicting our weather. We were amazed when we visited the UK in the nineties that the forecasters could predict the weather to the hour and they would be correct. That never happened in … Continue reading
Post or tree, not me: Weekly smile
I take Muffin dog training every Wednesday night. We join the dogs in the oval and put them through all the stuff we all religiously practice every day between sessions. The sunset last night was enough to bring a smile … Continue reading
A sure sign of Spring: Weekly Smile
How can spring not bring a smile to your face particularly when roof romance is afoot. Alerted by Muffin the antics went on throughout the day but ramped up as night fell. Hope this brings you a smile also. For … Continue reading
Adjusting: Trent’s Weekly Smile
After bilateral foot surgery the first smile was unexpected. I could see space between my big and next toe. This I had not been able to do for years. Visions of thongs flashed before my eyes. The possibilities could be … Continue reading
Smiles: For Cee and for Trent and a little fiction
showing happiness joy to be alive even plates can smile every smile unique and yet the same. A Smile can tell a story too…… I heard the crack as I bit down on the crusty baguette I had looked forward … Continue reading
The fishing Experience: Weekly Smile
We hired a boat for a couple of hours. It was a beautiful day despite the cloud cover. For winter, it was warm. That alone was enough to make you smile. We pulled up near a sand bar where a … Continue reading
Don’t lose a Day: Weekly Smile
When I came across this poster on a colleagues door I couldn’t help but think how true it is. Time spent being miserable is a waste of time and the time wasted can never be regained. How much better to … Continue reading
Weekly Smile: 9th June 2016
I have missed out on Trent’s Weekly smile for the last couple of weeks as I had been feeling as though there was not much to smile about in the world and even my own life seemed to be a … Continue reading
The faithful Dog: The Weekly Smile
The sense of community that was evident at the Cooroy Fusion Festival was enough to bring a smile but when I saw this pooch tied to the trailer running board I beamed from ear to ear. In response to Trent’s … Continue reading
