I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Week in Review: Week 8
What a week this has been. Putin has set the world on a catastrophic path. I said to my husband that he had been born as World War II ended in 1945 and hopefully this does not mean that now … Continue reading
Wordless Wednesday – Some times it is good to keep your mouth shut.
Today I wrote one draft email followed by another, then another, and another. Numerous more. When someone doesn’t listen to understand how you feel but instead takes it very personally it is impossible to communicate without spiralling into a conflict. … Continue reading
Publishing Your Blog the Easy Way
Okay, so it’s only a blog but you know the time and the effort you put into it and you don’t want to lose the body of work held within your sites’ pages. Perhaps you have been travelling and your … Continue reading
Know Your Name : Know Your Brand
As we all know, Name and its associated branding is crucial to the success of the company. This is whether we are multinational corporations, a local business or a writer or blogger. Our brand is important. Not only do we … Continue reading
Week in Review Week 1
Okay – this is supposed to be the week in review which should start in January but as I first saw this during the week I think its fair enough to include it. You won’t have met our puppy Monty … Continue reading
I want to Scream
For the first time in my life I relate to the Edvard Munch painting ” The Scream.” I wonder what was happening in his life at the time. Did he want to scream or did he just have enough empathy … Continue reading
A great day out but an expensive photo
Maleny Botanical Gardens and Bird World is a wonderful place to visit. Superb views of the Glass House Mountains are to be had from within the gardens. The mountains are so named because Captain Cook was reminded of glasshouses back … Continue reading
COVID 19 showed me Why I love Toastmasters
When 2019 happened I opted out of my world. I stopped doing almost everything that I did for my own enjoyment – dancing, writing, socialising. I cut myself off from everything apart from Toastmasters and I wondered why? I put … Continue reading
Carcasses: Cause Y’s a crooked letter and z’s no better.
Most of us don’t see that many carcasses apart from the odd bird, rat or toad and along the side of the road as roadkill. Normally we don’t give them a lot of thought. I had thought about carcasses when … Continue reading
