I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Weekly writing Challenge: Memoir Madness (An embarrassing Dance Moment)
A passion of mine is ballroom dancing. For me there is nothing that beats flying round the dance floor to the strains of a quick step, Viennese waltz, jazz waltz or foxtrot being held in the arms of someone who … Continue reading
99 Word Flash Fiction Challenge: Fruit
Charli’s July 23, 2014 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes fruit. It can be mythological, metaphorical or realistic. Think of fruit as a way to create tension, add a twist or something unexpected … Continue reading

Bite Size memoir No.11: Holiday Reads

Bite Size Memoir Number 10: Ten out of ten
The little red engine that huffed and puffed was an early childhood story that was read to me until such time that I knew it by heart. I’ve lived the life of that engine often telling myself “I think I … Continue reading
Bite Size memoir No 9: Cycling
I can understand Lisa’s choice of prompt as Yorkshire sees the start of the Tour de France. We watched it on the television stunned at the number of people turned out for the occasion. Over a million we were told. … Continue reading
Graduation
Today was Graduation. Noosa is a small campus which made the ceremony fairly short but with the same pomp and ceremony that you would get with a larger number of people graduating. Our university Central Queensland University is not a … Continue reading
Bite Size Memoir Number 8: Dressing Up
For fancy dress parties in the early days I was Little Bo Peep and my brother a cowboy. Twice this varied — once going as Sad Sack and another time when we went as Siamese twins in my Father’s pyjama … Continue reading
Bite Size Memoir No 7 : Childhood Illness
As soon as Lisa posted this weeks prompt I knew what I was going to write but I mentioned to her that I’d struggle to get it into 150 words. She suggested writing an explanatory piece to the flash so … Continue reading
