I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Playgrounds of the Old Fashioned Type
This is the playground equipment of my youth. I can remember holding onto the bars that are under the domed hat and running like mad, gathering speed until eventually there was no need to run. We’d bend our legs at … Continue reading
Bite Size Memoir Number 8: Dressing Up
For fancy dress parties in the early days I was Little Bo Peep and my brother a cowboy. Twice this varied — once going as Sad Sack and another time when we went as Siamese twins in my Father’s pyjama … Continue reading
Bite Size Memoir No 7 : Childhood Illness
As soon as Lisa posted this weeks prompt I knew what I was going to write but I mentioned to her that I’d struggle to get it into 150 words. She suggested writing an explanatory piece to the flash so … Continue reading
Bite Size Memoir number 3: Magic and Fairies
I wasn’t a girl who believed in fairys at the bottom of the garden yet I enjoyed fairy tales. My father read to me all of Aesops Fables and other tales involving fairys and magic. I remember fondly Tinkerbell from … Continue reading
Trog and other Animals
Trog was wild: but she comes a bit later. This is the first in a series about the animals in my life. It will be in a new category of its own called Trog and other animals. I was always … Continue reading
The Kitchen
Kitchens and I just don’t mix. I hate cooking. I hate touching food. I love eating food. I think that I probably picked this up from my mother who saw cooking as a chore. Coming home tired after a hard … Continue reading
Dining Room
A boring room which had openings into the kitchen (separated by a breakfast bar), the big back porch , the hall and the double opening into the lounge room. The room, bare apart from a table, six chairs and an … Continue reading
The Lounge Room
The loungeroom was the second room off the hallway that led from the front door. The entry into it was via a space the size of double doors except that there were no doors attached. Travelling around the room, the piano … Continue reading
