Floral Friday: Profusion of Yellow

These five photos were taken as we drove up onto the Blackall mountain range (part of the Great Dividing Range) which separates the coast from the west. On the bends as we went up we a profusion of yellow met us. The flowers looked like daisies but the stalks were tall and thick. The beauty was jaw dropping and unexpected. My regret there was nowhere I could pull over to take a decent picture so these are taken through front and rear and are sadly lacking but will give an idea if ever you are going to Montville travel in autumn to see the beauty of the mountainside.

Thursday’s Special: Cloudscape

© irene waters 2015

© irene waters 2015

Clouds are a dangerous challenge for me as I love clouds and I could look through cloud photos  and choose the lot because every cloud is beautiful, emotive and unique. How can you possibly choose just one. I can’t so you have nine clouds starting with dawn clouds to storm clouds to white fluffy clouds in an otherwise perfectly blue sky.

Friday Fictioneers: A Rolling Island

©

“I knew we’d find  the fourth chain when we cut through the other three.” Sean said.

“Yep. You were right. We’re not firmly anchored anymore. You can feel the island starting to move.” Grant said as he kicked idly at the links.

“Are you sure cutting this is safe?” Lucy frowned.

“No. Who knows what is going to happen. Hopefully float.”

“Sean, please don’t cut this one. I want to be sure we’re safe.”

“We’re cutting it.”

“There must have been some reason why they anchored it.”

“Perhaps” said Grant ” they just wanted to gather some moss.”

These two were about to become a giant pendulum swinging at great height down the side of the mountain and then into thin air. She was just a tad white when she finally alighted but she had more courage than I did.

Sunday Stills the Next Challenge: Circles

In this short movie there are three distinct circles. The most obvious being the carpet on the floor of the room. The circles were such a stand out feature that the minute I saw the prompt I thought of the room. However I discovered that all my photos were in reality parts of video clips.

On watching the video clip the didgeridoo which is the world’s oldest instrument (40,000 years) originating from Arnhem Land in the Northern territory. This amazingly versatile wind instrument is played with what is called circular breathing. This type of breathing allows you both breathe in whilst blowing out the air and entails having/learning the ability to breathe in through your nose whilst blowing out through your mouth.

The last circle is the sun on the aboriginal flag lining the back of the room.

Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: The birthday party.

I scratched my head wondering how odd that the cake photographed in this fashion. What special effects had I used. All the other photographs had turned out as below.

It took me some time before I realised that the first photo was not the cake but rather a candle I had photographed. The birthday celebrations were being held in a gallery. There were many lovely items and several that were to my mind odd.

and one that was both odd and to me very disturbing.

I was not surprised on reading the tag that this bag baby which you could purchase for $900 AUD had been for sale in the gallery since 2010.

99 Word Flash Fiction: Fear on the Island

©

© Charli Mills

The group alighted from the dinghy at the wooden steps and each, lost in their own thoughts of the week ahead, barely saw the opulence of their surroundings. They went to their rooms with instructions to meet in the garden for drinks  at 5pm precisely, dressed appropriately. That was the hard part, thought Kerry, just what is appropriate. She eventually picked on a skimpy bikini. Kerry’s heart sank, her fear real when she saw the others had chosen evening dress.

Hers was the only outfit not destroyed as the paint bombs flew. Filming of 13:Fear is Real had begun.

This week Charli has asked:

May 27, 2015 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story, using the above photo as a prompt. You can make it a garden party or an international spy thriller. Who is there and why? Does the backdrop scenery make an impact or is it ignored? The place is on an island, if you wish to make use of that. Go where the photograph leads you this week.

Respond by June 2, 2015 to be included in the weekly compilation.Rules are here. All writers are welcome!

In the bus taking me to the airport my very early morning start was rewarded by this wonderful cloud that seemed to be sitting on the ground.
