Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge: Pruning
This painting was lifesize and realistic. If the other gallery paintings had not reflected on it I would have loved it but as it is it is delegated to being an odd ball.

Black and White Sunday: Geometry
Paula has asked us to show geometry. Geometry can be seen in virtually everything. In these two photos of the container ship loading at the Port of Otago in New Zealand we have cuboid, square, cylinders, triangles of all descriptions and rectangles. There could be more but I’d have to blow the photo up to find them.
This photo shows cuboid of two varieties.
The containers in this photo are definitely cuboid I’m guessing the cuboid looking iceberg probably fits the criteria also.

Weekend Photo Challenge: Symbol
This symbol warns motorists to take care. It is true. These creatures do live here wild and cars would have to be their number one enemy followed by foxes and cats.
Both the kangaroo and koala are symbols in their own right. They are a symbol of Australia that most people in the world recognise.
This post is for the Weekly Photo Challenge.

Floral Friday: Pruned bougainvillea
Pruned severely yet flowering prolifically Bougainvillea with their lethal thorns seemed an odd choice for a planter in a public place where people would be sitting and resting their weary bones. It made for a beautiful display however.

Thursday’s Special: Patterns
This elephants entire body was covered with this recurring pattern.
My clever mother made the bride dress and also the two flower girl dresses from a pattern.
An animals behaviour pattern – we all have them like these clumping grubs.

Friday Fictioneers: Stay away from the Light
The police caught me speeding.
” Hospital.” I ramped up a wheeze. They put me in the police car, sirens blaring, the asthma no longer feigned. I struggled to breathe. I had no breath to talk. The doctors and nurses rushed. Oxygen. Intravenous cannula. Nebulised ventolin.
“Nurse give her 100mg aminophylline IV stat.” The doctor ordered. She came with a large syringe of the drug and inserted it to the intravenous line, swiftly injecting it.
My breathing stopped. I could see the light. As I approached it I watched them scrambling below
“Adrenaline.”
This time, I’d stayed away from the light.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: More than Five Items
The Brisbane art gallery made it easy to obtain more than five items for this weeks challenge. These strange characters in their cage on top of what reminded me of a rickshaw each was unique and decidedly a little unnerving.
The elephant was confronting. The image was beautiful and yet knowing the background to the elephant slaughter it was also ugly. Behind are people, and art works totalling more than five items.
In the science museum my head was added to the bowl of fruit. Again more than 5 items.
Also in the science museum was a very good display of turtle habitat. The number of different types of coral number more than five without taking into account the turtle, and variety of fish.
