Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Cee’s Odd Ball Photos: Recycled Milk Bottles
What a wonderful use for old plastic milk bottles. I don’t know who made them (they had a lot more patience than I am endowed with) but they were an extremely effective decoration. I particularly liked the milk bottle fascinator – I will give it a go for my next Melbourne Cup function.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Mealy Bug infestation Up Close
Mealy Bugs are a plant pest found in warmer climates that feed on the sap of the plant. It is actually only the female who drinks the nectar as the adult male lives only to procreate, having developed wings so he can fly from female to female. They can seriously damage plants that are in orchards and the other time they become a real problem is when they are also present with ants . Ants protect the pests from their natural predators and parasites. Unbelievably fossils of ants carrying mealy bugs have been found inside amber deposits. It is believed that this is the oldest (evidenced) symbiotic relationship between ants and bugs.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Half and half
Sunset at the grand canyon followed by Sunrise at the same location. Both cut in half by sky and landscape.
Here on Lake Geneva the photo is cut in half by under the cloud and above the cloud.
Vertical half – the cathedral in Geneva on one side and the town and lake on the other.
Here we have a couple of halves, the first being sky and rock formation. The other being the rock formation peak itself is in halves and in this half I stand.

A cold breeze, clear skies. Tonight will be freezing. Well perhaps somewhere between 4 and 10 degrees centigrade.
Friday Fictioneers: Les Trois Glorieuses
The three day festival was off to a good start. Sam, from Christies, felt confident they’d reach good prices at the auction. The red wine had flowed fast at the black tie dinner.
Sam stood with gavel in hand for the tenth year. The 165 year old auction had fetched higher prices each of those years for the Grand and Premier Cru. The bidding began, slowly. The first cuvée sold for a song. The bidding heated up on the second. Was it just coincidence that it sold for 1443 euros per bottle, the Hospice’s founding year.
In response to Sandra Crook‘s photo prompt on Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle. Visit and follow the blue frog to see other entries in this 100 word flash fiction. All welcome to join in.
This photo of Sandra’s took me back to the Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune, Burgundy. The glazed, multicoloured tiles arranged in geometric pattern are a sight not easily forgotten.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Lime Green/ Bright green
Lime/bright green is part of the human world. Babies particularly enjoy the bright colours.
It is also part of these animal’s world at Australia zoo. The crocodile once out of the water is not a fast runner so as it lies on the bright grass the handler is quite safe. In the water or close to shore the croc is king.
Poor Sabu can no longer be seen as per the green sign at 3pm. Sabu was a rescue elephant and was a ripe old age when she came to the zoo. Sadly she passed away but her final years were happy ones.
In nature green landscapes abound particularly in the tropics. Above in Tahiti whilst below in Vanuatu on the island of Tanna.
