This symbol warns motorists to take care. It is true. These creatures do live here wild and cars would have to be their number one enemy followed by foxes and cats.

Both the kangaroo and koala are symbols in their own right. They are a symbol of Australia that most people in the world recognise.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. Commenced a masters by research in 2014.

Where in Australia were these taken? I remember camping on Kangaroo Island and waking up with dozens of Kangaroos around us. http://judydykstrabrown.com/2015/07/11/the-rabbits-navel/

    • These were taken in Noosaville/Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Qld just down the road from where I live. It is lovely waking up to have the Roos around you. It sounds as though Kangaroo Island was well named. I certainly love having them live wild around me.

  3. This is just what we Yankees think of Australia – koalas cuddled in the crux of a tree, kangaroos munching on the lawn the way that deer eat ours. So much fun, your wildlife.
