I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

On a recent trip to China we found the food to be a little disappointing. I am quite convinced that there was wonderful food to be had but it was a cheap trip, assumed we wanted food like Starbucks, Macdonalds … Continue reading
Food in Egypt: Travel Thoughts 4
As we drove past the piles of rubbish on the way to lunch our guide warned us about eating Egyptian food – putting the disclaimer that anywhere he took us was quite safe to eat everything but we should avoid … Continue reading

Rick’s Artisan Pies and Sour Dough is a new store in town. One of the girls from Jaspers (which has changed hands) now works there and obviously we had to go and see what her new work conditions were like. … Continue reading
Comfort Food: 99 Word Flash Fiction
“Mum, cook something different? Soup and casseroles are so passé.” “Because it isn’t what is needed.” “I’m sure they’d prefer some tappas. Some fried green spanish olives and perhaps beetroot, fetta and sweet potato empanadas with chimichurri.” “No. Pumpkin soup … Continue reading
Weekend Coffee Share: 30th January 2016
Hi. Come on in. Today all that is on offer is cold drinks, unless you come very early in the morning when I’ll offer you a coffee. It is hot, dripping hot. BILL and SILS are melting. I think they … Continue reading
City to Stomach Vibrance: Weekly Photo Challenge
From buildings with the colours of the rainbow to seating an otherwise drab city is made vibrant. Where most are in winter black, a woman in orange with her dog in clashing red combine with the vibrant green of the … Continue reading
Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: What tastes good or bad to you
Back in the days when I fended for myself my food did not have the same appeal as it has done since my husband has taken over the cooking. Did it taste bad. Maybe now I would say yes although … Continue reading
Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge:
Finally we had the dinner Roger should have had on his birthday. The meal at Pitchfork Perigian Beach was nothing but superb. I have requested of Roger that he replicate the entree and the dessert for us to add to … Continue reading
The Kitchen
Kitchens and I just don’t mix. I hate cooking. I hate touching food. I love eating food. I think that I probably picked this up from my mother who saw cooking as a chore. Coming home tired after a hard … Continue reading
