I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

When I first read this challenge I thought how on earth will I ever choose a piece of music as I have so many melodies in my head that evoke wonderful memories of times past and present and others that … Continue reading
The menagerie begins: Trog and Other Animals
A few years passed before I owned another pet. I kicked up my heels, explored Australia on my GT550 motor bike and as I was not settled in any one place long enough, I was not justified to have any animal … Continue reading
Sammy Saves the Day: Trog and Other Animals
I wasn’t at Lindfield long. No more than a year. Sammy and the rest of the family were there probably two years after me then they moved to the family home in Mosman. My Great Aunt remained in the house … Continue reading
A Rant – On Alcohol
In Australia excessive alcohol consumption is a huge burden on society, not only as a direct result of death and disease but also due to the effects that it has on the families, and local communities such as criminal activity, vandalism, aggression … Continue reading
Thinking of them
As New South Wales faces the worst bushfires in over a decade with over 200 homes burnt to the ground and countless others damaged, animals left injured and homeless, our rural fire service exhausted but carrying on. In Qld where … Continue reading
The Lounge Room
The loungeroom was the second room off the hallway that led from the front door. The entry into it was via a space the size of double doors except that there were no doors attached. Travelling around the room, the piano … Continue reading
Love Story – (fiction inspired by the man of many talents and other buskers)
The normally noisy chatter in the pub died as the didgeridoo’s deep drone rolled through the air and vibrated up through the floor. The two men on stage were oblivious to the crowd as they lost themselves in the dreamtime. … Continue reading
Noosa’s Best Kept Secret
We first came to the amphitheatre before we moved to Noosa, on the sunshine coast of Queensland, Australia, two years ago. Our friends took us on a picnic to Lake Macdonald in the Noosa hinterland at Cooroy. The Lake is spectacular … Continue reading
