Round like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel

© irene waters 2017
Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that’s turning running rings around the moon

© irene waters 2017
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space

© irene waters 2017
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own

Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone

© irene waters 2017
Like a door that keeps revolving in a half forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble someone tosses in a stream

© irene waters 2017
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space

Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket, words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly, was it something that you said?
Lovers walking along a shore and leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway and the fragment of a song
Half remembered names and faces, but to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over you were suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning to the color of her hair!
Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel

As the images unwind, like the circles that you find

Pelicans themselves are an oddity
left over from the dinosaur age
These pelicans made from the odd bits and pieces
that were once rubbish to someone
Become an oddity along the creek
Each an individual
With no mistaking that they are indeed
Pelicans, an oddity.

In response to Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge. I did not find that this was such an odd ball photo but rather odd ball instructions. Would you jump the razor wire to wander in HMAS Penguin. At least if you did you would know not to do so in wet weather and keep to the tracks wearing the appropriate footwear. To me… that is odd ball.

I shut my eyes
and dreamed away
of wishes I may want
Choosing one
I made my wish
Then blew with all my might.

© irene waters 2017
The air that I expelled that night
could only be described as hot
For my wish, if it came true,
Was remembered not.
But perhaps my wish transferred itself
To he who sat behind
For granted was his wish,
of another hot air kind.

On his birthday this occurred
when all his wishes came true
Surprising him
His childhood friends
from Sweden flew in
and gifted him a lifelong wish
of a floating trip
In a hot air balloon.
