I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gaining Depth
Aratiatia dam in New Zealands North Island provides a vision of depth which we were not expecting. After a morning on the jet boat we were having a lazy drive not expecting to come across something this spectacular. The dam … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Arranged
The Stonehenge is aged at around 3100BC and found in Wiltshire near the town of Avesbury. The site was opened, according to google, in 2000BC. In those days however you did not need to arrange a tour, you could wander … Continue reading
Floral Friday: An Aussie Country garden
Earlyn country garden is the type of place you discover when you have your sister-in-law and her husband visiting from Germany. Unlike our visits to their town where there are all manner of walks close-by, the miles between places in Australia … Continue reading
Shadow Shot Sunday: Shadows at Ditchling Beacon
We always visited England at Christmas when my husband’s father was alive. It was always cold but I loved it. I had previously only been in summer when all the hedges were in full leaf and I felt as though … Continue reading

Bridges of Europe. There are so many and so varied, these are but a few. The footbridge crossing the River Reuss in Lucerne is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe. The interior of the bridge (the Kapellbrucke) has restored … Continue reading
Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: Harbourfront Wellington
I loved the contrast of the bright yellow painted tie up point, the timber and the rust. Parts seemed so well cared for whilst others appeared to suffer neglect. I didn’t understand at first what a free ambulance was or … Continue reading
A lingering look at Windows wk 49: Danger lurks at the Te Papa
The Te Papa museum in Wellington lived up to its reputation as being a fantastic natural history and every other thing museum. We had missed it on our previous visits to Wellington and I’m glad I had the opportunity of … Continue reading
