I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

In the School Playground: Times Past
Driving past school playgrounds I find myself saying “If only I could have been a kid now” or ” I wish we’d had that equipment to play on.” This led me to think of the differences that climate may have … Continue reading
Weather: Times Past
In Queensland and Northern NSW Tropical Cyclone (now ex) Debbie has been wreaking havoc. Starting as a slow moving Category 4 its winds exceeded 200 km/hr and it dumped masses of rain as it crossed from sea to land. Thousands … Continue reading
Dental Memories: Times Pasts
Last night we watched Intolerable Cruelty yet again. It’s a good film if you haven’t seen it. In it George Clooney plays a divorce attorney. His smile (and the good teeth he exposes in the smiling) are something that is … Continue reading

Welcome back to Times Past in 2017. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. It seems like such a long time ago, now that we are already into our second month of 2017 and the world … Continue reading
Xmas Trees:Times Past
Thank you to everyone who contributed or left a comment about dressing up, our last months prompt. These can be seen here. This month we of course have to have a theme of Christmas. Will the disparate geographical locations give … Continue reading
Dressing Up: Times Past
Last month’s prompt Collections certainly showed that some collections were common over generations and geographical differences whilst other remembered collections have become un/less acceptable to collect now with our greater knowledge of the world. My favourite collection however had to be … Continue reading
Collections: Times Past
Last month’s prompt brought out many home remedies common in both the silent generation and Baby Boomers. It was interesting that these remedies seemed to be universal over all the continents that the responses came from. The Silent Generation saw … Continue reading
Changes in Treatment: Times Past
Last month’s Times Past looked at clubs and having only received responses from Baby Boomers all I can conclude is that no matter where you lived clubs were not associations we joined in our youth on a large scale. Red Cross … Continue reading
Clubs: Times Past
Last months prompt generated a lot of memories about toys we held dear to us in our childhood. All generations had those who had a stuffed animal that they loved until they cuddled the hair off it and in one … Continue reading
