I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Learning to Write: Times Past
Following a fiction piece I did for Charli over at Carrot Ranch with the prompt ‘blot’ my piece mentioned a copybook. I was surprised by the number of people who had not heard of a copy book. I asked my … Continue reading
High School Graduation: Times Past
Was high school graduation a big event for you or did it pass unnoticed. As a city baby boomer high school graduation was not an event that my school, at least, made much of a fuss about. I believe that this … Continue reading
Driving: Times Past
Transport has become an increasingly important part of our lives. When my Great Grandfather came to Australia his mode of transport was a pony and cart. Holidays a long way from home simply didn’t happen. The car made a world … Continue reading
Agricultural Shows/Fairs: Times Past
Thanks to D. Avery for this prompt. When she suggested it we had just had our public holiday for our local show. I said at the time that we should stop having a public holiday when the show was on … Continue reading
Childhood Birthdays: Times Past
I don’t believe how quickly this month has come around. Already we are into the third day of it and I haven’t posted a prompt nor thought of one. No – one has just come to me. The celebration of … Continue reading
In the School Playground: Times Past
Driving past school playgrounds I find myself saying “If only I could have been a kid now” or ” I wish we’d had that equipment to play on.” This led me to think of the differences that climate may have … Continue reading
Weather: Times Past
In Queensland and Northern NSW Tropical Cyclone (now ex) Debbie has been wreaking havoc. Starting as a slow moving Category 4 its winds exceeded 200 km/hr and it dumped masses of rain as it crossed from sea to land. Thousands … Continue reading
Dental Memories: Times Pasts
Last night we watched Intolerable Cruelty yet again. It’s a good film if you haven’t seen it. In it George Clooney plays a divorce attorney. His smile (and the good teeth he exposes in the smiling) are something that is … Continue reading
