I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Dorrigo Steam Railway and Museum
On my recent visit to Dorrigo I expected that the National Parks would be my focus, world heritage sites and waterfalls totally unexpecting the discovery of the as yet unopened railway museum. I had met some friends in Dorrigo and whilst … Continue reading
Land of Confusion
When You Don’t Fit In Fitting in is something I am good at not doing. We all experience this predicament at times and most of us have developed ways of coping. During my recent trip to Noosa I experienced “not fitting … Continue reading
Ballroom Dancing
One of my favourite activities, ballroom dancing, is so enjoyable that the dancer is unaware of the health benefits they are gaining from the activity. There are numerous reasons why I and other dancers keep coming back for more. Firstly, the exhilaration … Continue reading
A Rant – On Alcohol
In Australia excessive alcohol consumption is a huge burden on society, not only as a direct result of death and disease but also due to the effects that it has on the families, and local communities such as criminal activity, vandalism, aggression … Continue reading

A Man of Many Talents
Meeting an old girl friend is always fun. We have known each other since we started our nursing training together when we were still in our teens. An added advantage of our move to Qld was that my girlfriend and … Continue reading
My Old Boy
Summer is on its way and the days are already hot. Zac, my eleven year old German Shepherd was showing signs of ageing. From past experience when these subtle changes appear the decline is fairly rapid. Old age in dogs is … Continue reading
Noosa’s Best Kept Secret
We first came to the amphitheatre before we moved to Noosa, on the sunshine coast of Queensland, Australia, two years ago. Our friends took us on a picnic to Lake Macdonald in the Noosa hinterland at Cooroy. The Lake is spectacular … Continue reading
Delighting the Senses
Belaroma. Beautiful smell. How aptly named. Orders were shouted to the barista. Waiters ran between the small groups sitting at the matching wooden tables : taking orders and delivering steaming cups of long blacks and cappuccinos. Adorning the walls frescos … Continue reading
Change in a lifetime
How alone you are without friends. This was the situation for my Great-Aunt and then my maternal Grandmother: they had become so old that they were the last of their line. I fear it will soon be the case for … Continue reading
