I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Risk Taking
Reading a post “The Past is always tense, the future perfect” Geoff from TanGental advises that we either “run shrieking with delight into the sea of possibilities or we can poke it suspiciously with a stick to see if a serpent … Continue reading
Graduation
Today was Graduation. Noosa is a small campus which made the ceremony fairly short but with the same pomp and ceremony that you would get with a larger number of people graduating. Our university Central Queensland University is not a … Continue reading
99 Word Flash Fiction: Amelia
99 word Flash Amelia left the two women who stared after her. “Amelia’s in the family way again.” “Every time that ne’er-do-well husband comes home she has another bairn.” “Lucky his ship don’t come in too oft. Threes enough on … Continue reading
Do you want to live forever? At least live a long, healthy life.
Today my brother is taking out our Mother for her 86th birthday. Sadly he won’t be there as he lives in Switzerland and my husband and I are going in his stead. We’ll think of him whilst we dine at … Continue reading
Xmas – Mungo shamed: Trog and Other Animals
My nieces were regular visitors at our farm. They loved coming as they both loved animals and we certainly had enough of them. We certainly enjoyed the Christmas’s that they were with us as the excitement that children feel at … Continue reading
Sammy Saves the Day: Trog and Other Animals
I wasn’t at Lindfield long. No more than a year. Sammy and the rest of the family were there probably two years after me then they moved to the family home in Mosman. My Great Aunt remained in the house … Continue reading
The Kitchen
Kitchens and I just don’t mix. I hate cooking. I hate touching food. I love eating food. I think that I probably picked this up from my mother who saw cooking as a chore. Coming home tired after a hard … Continue reading
Dining Room
A boring room which had openings into the kitchen (separated by a breakfast bar), the big back porch , the hall and the double opening into the lounge room. The room, bare apart from a table, six chairs and an … Continue reading
The Lounge Room
The loungeroom was the second room off the hallway that led from the front door. The entry into it was via a space the size of double doors except that there were no doors attached. Travelling around the room, the piano … Continue reading
