I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Cruisey Outdoor Ways to move up and Down : Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge
Getting down from the ship onto the rocking platform then up into the tender judging the right wave was a lot of fun. Always a helping hand closeby for someone struggling either with up or in this case down. Note … Continue reading
Port call in Papua New Guinea: FFFAW
The passengers from the cruise ship stepped onto land to be greeted with a cacophony of sounds. Tribal drumming from one quarter, taxi drivers spruiking in another and the other quarters, two schools competing for attention, the begging bowl in … Continue reading

Scale: Weekly Photo Challenge
There was no doubting the cruise boat was large. It made the city of Sydney look small and people insignificant. It towered above and blocked out the landscape. But from the skytower in Aukland, the tallest freestanding building in … Continue reading

Portrait v/s Landscape in the fjords: Thursday’s Special
This week Paula has asked that we post the same scene, one as a portrait and one as a landscape. Cruising through the New Zealand fjords on a mammoth ship intensified the height of the mountains falling into the sea. … Continue reading
Shore Excursion 2: Auckland
We arrived in Auckland, on the North Island of New Zealand, early in the morning. Again we had not organised any tours. Most of the tours outside of Auckland were to places we had previously visited and we opted to … Continue reading
Getting a bite to Eat on board
Before boarding I researched how to survive the amount of food I was going to be presented with. There were lots of hints: ask for half serves of everything, sit with your back to the smorgasbord or avoid them altogether, … Continue reading
Shore Excursion 1: The Bay of Islands
Our cruise followed the New Zealand coast line (in international waters so that gambling and drinking could be carried out on ship without penalty) with our first port of call being the Bay of Islands. We woke up as we … Continue reading
