Paula has asked for the last Thursday’s Special of the year,  the best photo you have posted in 2017. I tried to do this for WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge and found that I had more favourite photos so dividing them into skies and water, nature, family, and just because I culled them as far as I thought I could go. To see these go here. For Paula I am posting a photo of Noosa with the elements I love – blue sky, water and vegetation. The only things missing are my dogs. Thank you Paula for hosting Thursday’s Special – it is a challenge I enjoy immensely.

A Wrong Diagnosis: Six Sentence Stories

The patient was not for resuscitation so the nurses watched as her heart rate slowed, her breathing became shallow and almost imperceptible and her skin became cool to the touch. It came as no surprise when all the alarms sounded to herald death and a physical examination confirmed this. Her daughter was contacted and gently told, “your mother has just passed away.”

A half hour later after the body had been washed and prepared for the daughter’s last visit a moan came from behind the curtains, startling the staff who raced into the cubicle to see the woman attempting to sit up.

Embarrassed, the nurse met the daughter at the door of the ward and said, “I’m glad to say we got it wrong. Your mother didn’t die she was in a state of suspended animation.”

In response to Zoe’s six sentence prompt suspend.

Merry Christmas: Weekend Coffee Share 24th December 2017

To everyone whether you have visited once or visited many times I wish you Seasons Greetings and hope you have a Merry Christmas. Now come on in for coffee and lets have a chat.

If we were having coffee I’d ask you if you think this year has gone by very quickly. For me it has. I guess there were some major events during the year. In March we had our nurses reunion celebrating the completion of our nursing training 40 years ago. Such a long time ago and hard to believe how many of our group are still nursing.

The next was a trip to Sydney with my mother to receive on my brother’s behalf an award from Sydney University.

By this time I had completed my studies but my own graduation brought home to me just what I had achieved.

And the final and most important event of the year happened last week on the 19th December. Roger and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. This made me reflect on the road we have journeyed together. Our wedding was all the more special as my father performed the ceremony, my brother gave me away, his girls were my flower girls, my mother made my dress, I won my cake (which I later learnt my best lady dropped and had to repair) and many more people made it a day that was very special.

Our 25 years married has seen us in on the island of Tanna having a nightmare in Paradise, attempting to be farmers, general store proprietors and restaurant chef and waitress, builders labourers, builders and finally retired (although with Roger’s support I did my Master of Arts and have been writing solidly.)

I feel blessed to have had 25 years with a man I can still say I love and who makes me laugh and he can still say:

IMG_3446IMG_3447

I think that is enough about me. Thank you for visiting me throughout the year. Your presence is special to me also. I hope you have a very merry Christmas. And I’d love to know what you have been up to, what books you’ve read, films you’ve seen and what your plans are for tomorrow if you celebrated Christmas. In Australia Christmas Day and Boxing Day are public holidays so everyone (except those in retail and hospitality and service industries) have a four day weekend. Noosa puts on free buses to try to alleviate the parking problem so we will be hopping on the bus each day and going to the beach. If it is not too hot we’ll walk in the National Park and make use of the buses. Christmas Day we are going with Mum into the Hinterland for lunch in a restaurant. Back to you…….

Thank you EclecticAli for hosting our coffee weekends.

White Flowers: 99 Word Flash Fiction

Screen Shot 2017-12-24 at 11.14.22 AM

In response to Charli’s prompt  where she asked:

December 21, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) include white flowers in your story. This is a repeat prompt, but one that has an ability to be emotive. Humor, drama, irony — go wherever the white flowers lead.

Respond by December 26, 2017 (Happy Boxing Day!) to be included in the compilation (published December 27). Rules are here. All writers are welcome!

She lay on a bed of white flowers. Her tanned skin contrasting against the white making the white whiter and the brown browner. She moved sensuously, luxuriating in the velvety softness that enveloped her and inhaled the wafts of perfume. She rolled and stretched, her movements slow and languorous. She was alone but not lonely. Her thoughts like the flowers were pure as driven snow; dark chocolate, cashmere sweaters. How she’d longed for this place and now found, she wanted to stay forever.
A field of white flowers offered so much more than that cloud she had abandoned.
