An international gathering of researchers from many different disciplines gathered in the Shakespeare room of the State Library of NSW for a group photo.

A less formal gathering was on the street nearby where a soccer artisan performed his magic with the ball.

Soon after Christmas, in January, the Festival of Sydney starts. Free concerts are given in public places and always stimulates a large gathering to hear in this case an opera.

Smaller gatherings happen at my home town where people stop and stare into the eyes of a fire breathing dragon. Little did I know that when I joined the gathering it would lead to a series of events finishing in hospital. Read about that here.

A sadder occasion the board riders gathered to make the circle of honour to farewell one of their own.

A larger gathering is possible in my home town when people come together for Carols by candel light.

And no gathering is complete without the gathering of the clan, either mine (above) or a feathery one below.

The gathering of the ducks I’m including as a tribute to the old Kandanga Pub which burnt to the ground during the week.

Early Doors and Windows on Tanna: Cee’s Fun foto Challenge

12

Arriving on the island of Tanna on the undulating grass strip we were excited to alight from the middle door and watch the cargo leave from the rear door.

8

Our prospective business had a superbly positioned restaurant perched on the edge of the coral with uninterrupted views of the ocean. The doors and windows were functional but nothing more.

3

As were the doors and windows in the hut we were shown to.

13

Although we had been to the volcano on our previous visit we took the opportunity and went again. The dual cab had four doors and six windows but our best views were when we got out of the vehicle.

5

This was a window of opportunity that we could observe this baptism giving these children access to the doorway of heaven.

Not only did the boat have windows and doors but buried in that pile of timber which was to become our house were also plenty of windows and doors.

When our electrical system arrived this car transported the 1 ton battery. The windows and doors looked solid but I wasn’t too sure about the rest of the vehicle.

The missionary built Presbyterian Church was “termites holding hands” and I think it may be gone after the last cyclone. The doors and windows added to the architecture.

Our house with the windows and doors now visible. We had plenty of willing helpers. My role was to put the jigsaw puzzle of loose timber together. Roger was masterbuilder but we couldn’t have done it without the boys. We didn’t think to take a ladder with us and of course there were none on the island for sale.

Dhobi Wallahs: Looky loo 99 Word Flash Fiction

For centuries Dharval’s family had been Dhobi Wallahs but his clients were now dwindling, no longer wanting the function the family performed. India was becoming too affluent. The Hyatt Hotel, his last pick-up, always had a consignment. He grabbed the bag and pedalled furiously to the muddy, polluted Ganges. His door to door six day clothes  washing service was now done in three to keep clients happy. He beat the sari furiously against the rocks as he watched sewage float past and the swaddled body of a dead child. Maybe his clients were right. They should buy washing machines.

In response to Charli’s prompt where she asks:

December 9, 2015 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write about a looky-loo. It can be in the general term of “looking around” or it can be a nosy neighbor kind of tale. You can also go deeper into the prompt and have a looky-loo at another culture (or your own).

Respond by December 15, 2015 to be included in the weekly compilation. Rules are here. All writers are welcome!

Weekend Coffee Share : 12th December 2015

weekendcoffeeshare

So glad you could pop around for a cuppa. Coffee? Tea? Hot Chocolate? How has your week been? Hopefully it saw you happy, well and full of the festive spirit.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am not yet in the festive mood. Will I be? I really don’t know. The meaning of Christmas has been lost and it seems to be increasingly a retailer’s bonanza. Thanks last weeks coffee share I have sorted out my nephews present and a trip to ‘Wallace House’ the local arts and craft venue, I have some small gifts for some of the girls at dancing and those at work. The remainder I have yet to find. It looks like this coming week is going to be battling the crowds at the shops. Perhaps I might make everyone paleo balls. Now that’s an idea…. Have you finished all your Christmas shopping?

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I have submitted two of the articles I had to get in, one by the 10th and another by the 20th. I breathed a sigh of relief only one more to go before Xmas. I’d no sooner inhaled than an email arrived with my first one back with some minor changes  to make to my article. The exhale totally deflated me. The peer review process is great. So seldom do you get critical comment on your writing and most people pay to have an agent do this. With peer review you get two people who do it for free but they can be brutal. In this case it wasn’t brutal but when you think you have finished something and mentally moved on it is hard to go back.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I sunk into a bit of a depression possibly as a result. This is not a condition that I often suffer and I really feel for those that do. That  feeling of not wanting to do anything is so debilitating. Luckily mine was short lived as I had already arranged to pick up a girlfriend to go dancing down the coast. It didn’t take long before I had a smile back on my face although for the majority of the night I had to take the male role. I did get a wonderful quickstep and jive so I left floating on air. I don’t mind dancing the male part as I only go for the dancing so it makes little difference to me and most of my female partners tell me I’m better at leading than most of the men are. I sometimes wonder how many bruises they go home with.

Finally, if we were having coffee I’d update you on Muffin. Roger has not succeeded in getting her a new home and she has quietened down a little. She is starting to do endearing things and although we are not quite on top of the toilet training we are better than we were a couple of weeks ago.

Now it’s your turn…..

Thanks to Diana for hosting our coffee and there are others who’d like to meet you so pop on over to visit them also.
