Weekend Coffee Share: 30th January 2016

weekendcoffeeshare

Hi. Come on in. Today all that is on offer is cold drinks, unless you come very early in the morning when I’ll offer you a coffee. It is hot, dripping hot. BILL and SILS are melting. I think they are thinking that Germany at -9 centigrade would be preferable to our 32.5 which when you add in the humidity is the equivalent of 38.9 centigrade (102.2 Farenheit) so its cold only today.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I have been mainly absent from the blogosphere this week as I really have had to put my head down working from 5am until 10pm with breaks for walking the dogs and eating. I have 20 pages of editing left to go and am hopeful I will hand it to my supervisor for her perusal sometime during the coming week, although if I come across some difficult sections (pages 50 -60  took me over two weekss) it may take longer. But I am hopeful.

If we were having coffee I’d tell youI always take Friday off as this is my Mother’s day. We always go out for lunch and with BILL and SILS with us we are driving further afield to show them a bit of the countryside. This week we went to Cotton Tree and had lunch at the Boat house, a delightful restaurant on the mouth of the Maroochy River. The setting was idyllic and the food was excellent.

A brief walk along the beach watching the storm brew behind us then home before it hit.

Since I started having my cool drinks this morning the weather is now much cooler. Coffee is back on the menu. We’ve had over 110 mm rain and no sign of it letting up. BILL and SILS haven’t seen anything like it and our claps of thunder have them somewhat scared.

I have only done a weekly smile, thanks Trent for hosting and the weekly photo challenge. Again I will probably be absent most of the week as I finish my work off. I will however be posting my next prompt for Times Past. I am planning that I will do this on the 2nd of February as it is the second prompt. I hope that again you will give me your remembrances and we can see both the differences between generations and locations. There could also be a gender difference with this next one…. but Time will tell.

So what has your week been like? Weather hot or cold? Anyway, I’d better get back to my revisions. Thanks for coming and keeping me company for a bit and giving me a break. Look forward to catching up with you soon.

Thanks to Diana for hosting our coffee mornings. Have a good week.

From buildings with the colours of the rainbow to seating an otherwise drab city is made vibrant.

Where most are in winter black, a woman in orange with her dog in clashing red combine with the vibrant green of the shopping baskets, to brighten the supermarket aisles.

Again green orange and red  a vibrant combination for sure.

There is nothing more vibrant than the blue of an Australian sky and combined with wind surfers, ocean and sand……

My Mother’s meal yesterday. A vibrant combination that whetted the taste buds.

Laughter Yoga : The Weekly Smile

weeklysmile1

I haven’t had a lot to laugh about this week. My deadline is looming and I’m working from 5am to 10 pm with a couple of breaks to walk the dogs and eat. I wasn’t going to post a smile at all this week however, I came across a video that when I saw it on the program some time ago I laughed and laughed. It had the same effect today and I had to share it, for laughter is so good for you and already, having watched it three times already and laughed each time, I know I’m going to meet my deadline. I’m ready to work another day.

I once attended a laughter yoga session where we had to force laughter as it has the same beneficial effects as laughing spontaneously and those benefits stay with you long after the laughing has subsided. Sharing laughter has the effect of creating a bond between people, breaking down divisions and increasing happiness. It also has a physical impact on your body as it boosts the immune system, lowers the hormones which cause stress, decreases pain and has beneficial effects on muscles, including the heart. There are mental benefits as it makes you happy, decreases stress, anxiety and fear and makes you more resilient to what life may throw at you. Then there are the social benefits as laughter acts as an attractant, defuses conflict, enhances team work and bonds a group together and strengthens relationships.

If you don’t get what he is laughing at, don’t worry, just look at him and truly, laughter is contagious.

Thanks Trent for hosting the Weekly Smile. More smiles can be seen here.

Weekend Coffee Share: 23rd January 2016

weekendcoffeeshare

Come on in. The coffee machine is on and tea, coffee or hot chocolate are on offer. Perhaps in todays heat and humidity you’d prefer an iced water. Anyway come and sit by the pool, stick your feet in and cool down with whatever you’d like to drink.

Today I took BILL and SILS to Mudjimba to pick up a coffee machine that Roger wants to play with. He thinks he will be able to get it going (and he probably will) and he will replace ours which we spent a fortune repairing and then found it didn’t make great coffee anyway. After picking it up we went off to Mudjimba Beach. Today they were warning that it was dangerous to go swimming so we walked along the beach just taking in the salt spray.

Despite the sea looking calm the risks were high as many undercurrents were present. SILS told me that we had had fourteen beach drownings since January. Many of these would be overseas tourists who are unaware of the dangers posed by the sea and not being aware that they must swim between the flags to be as safe as they can be. A big mistake a lot of people make is to go in the calm water where no waves are breaking. Big mistake. This is where the wash back out to sea is at its strongest.

Yesterday we had lunch in the hinterland. A lovely day and then drove home via the Glass House Mountains. These were named by Captain Cook in 1770 because from his viewing looking in from the sea they reminded him of glass houses in England. They are in reality volcanic plugs but they make for stunning viewing when you first see them.

Apart from these two trips they have been happy catching the bus and exploring the area by push bike and walking. I have put my nose to the grindstone this week and really worked. At least 8 hours a day and sometimes more. Luckily the Australian Open tennis is on and SILS could watch it all day with just a bit of puzzling thrown in. Luckily BILL wants to see a bit of the countryside so they do get out.

With all this I haven’t done much blogging this week and I probably won’t for the next couple of weeks so my apologies if I don’t visit you as regularly as I should.

I had to laugh (probably should save it for Trent’s smile) but we could do with a smile everyday, couldn’t we. I have a toilet for Muffin which she uses when she is desperate to go. Most of the time she now goes to the garden which is some distance from the house or in the front yard but sometimes she is caught short and uses this toilet.

The other day I discovered BILL and SILS wiping their feet very carefully on the grass thinking it was there to clean their shoes before going inside. I can tell you the laugh I had was very therapeutic and I think they went off to wash their shoes.

It’s been lovely having you visit but I am heading off now to go dancing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the thunderstorm predicted doesn’t come whilst I am doing the 40 minute drive to where I am going. How is the weather where you are? I know it was -9 in Germany the other day. Brrrr!

Thanks to Diana for hosting our coffee mornings. Have a good week.

Optimistic: Weekly Photo Challenge

IMG_3109

Optimism abounds in this scene. Early morning, the sun shining through making a rainbow on the trees, and optimistic that the dawning day would follow with a perfect summer’s day. In the dog park the girl, was optimistic that her bird wouldn’t fly away.

Two dogs were optimistic they were about to get breakfast. Bundy was optimistic this early morning jaunt would soon end at the coffee shop where he would get a treat.
