Optimism abounds in this scene. Early morning, the sun shining through making a rainbow on the trees, and optimistic that the dawning day would follow with a perfect summer’s day. In the dog park the girl, was optimistic that her bird wouldn’t fly away.

Two dogs were optimistic they were about to get breakfast. Bundy was optimistic this early morning jaunt would soon end at the coffee shop where he would get a treat.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
When you’ve been treated well, you are optimistic. Great concept for everyone.

What a lovely bird! Was the dogs’ optimism rewarded?

Not today but I didn’t like to ask where the other two birds were that usually were on her shoulder as well.

Oh I love this. Your posts fill me with optimism and joy year round Irene 🙂 And you know what’s weird? I didn’t see the beautiful bird at first in the top photo at first, and when I read your words I had to go back to look again! Just shows how observant I am…not!!!

Glad to fill you with optimism Sherri. It is funny you say you didn’t see the bird – I know the bird is there as I took the photo because of it however, when I look at the photo my eye goes straight to that phone lying abandoned on the picnic table. You obviously just saw something else in the photo that captured your attention also.

It’s very interesting isn’t it? When I went back to the photo, I couldn’t believe I missed the bird, and such a beauty too! As you say, something else must have distracted me at that first viewing…
