I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Out of the Blue: Three Line Tales Week 89
The sign shone down on me in all its neon glory, “This is the sign you’ve been looking for.” I stared in disbelief. I didn’t know I’d been looking for a sign. Damn! Now I was going to have to … Continue reading
Possibly the last: Friday Fictioneers
Pulverised garden worms. Adam had used his wife’s food processor whilst she was out making a tasty meal for the mynor bird he’d captured earlier in the day. “C’mmon Tweety Pie. Just in case. Open wide.” The bird obliged and … Continue reading
Retribution: Friday Fictioneers 6th October 2017
Home. The ferry was more inviting. Jan unwound herself from the bench. “Come on. You can do it.” Almost reluctantly she walked up the hill, guided by the moonlight, to the house she’d left twenty years earlier. Her parents slept. … Continue reading
Where Do I start: Three Line Tales, Week 88
Where do I start? With the murder or before I met her? Chronologically or a non-linear narrative? Why am I writing this tragic tale? For redemption or confession: perhaps for my own healing. They say allow time to pass before … Continue reading
Hurricane Relief: #flash4storms
Hurricane aid arrived on the east of the island. Apart from downed trees and roofs blown off they had fared well in the storm and even better in its aftermath. “Chief Tom! They need that rice and water on the … Continue reading
Help: #flash4storms
Horizontal unrelenting rain. Wind snapping trees like twigs and lifting roofs. It sounded like a train as the mountain slid down the hillside taking everything in its wake. Tidal surges flooded buildings. Nothing untouched, all smelling of rot. No food. … Continue reading
Sunday School Picnic: Three Line Tales, Week 87
A scream of terror interrupted the egg and spoon race. Parents raced into the quietness of the wide sandy banks of the river. Another scream. One of anguish. The other parents converged. All that could be seen was an arm … Continue reading
