‘THEY were standing under a tree, each with an arm round the other’s neck, and Alice knew which was which in a moment, because one of them had “DUM” embroidered on his collar, and the other “DEE”. ‘I suppose they’ve each got “TWEEDLE” round at the back of the collar,’ she said to herself.
They stood so still that she quite forgot they were alive, and she was just going round to see if the word “TWEEDLE” was written at the back of each collar, when she was startled by a voice coming from the one marked “DUM”.
‘If you think we’re wax-works,’ he said, ‘you ought to pay, you know. Wax-works weren’t made to be looked at for nothing. Nohow.’ Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.
Doubles are not always as easy as to tell apart as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum

or in the case of the butterfly lake on Fraser Island one wing is just slightly a different shape to the other. Not quite the perfect double.

No, you don’t have double vision but these aren’t perfect doubles either.

but a double celebration. A wedding and a christening. Makes the perfect double.
In response to Paula’s Thursday’s Special where she has found the perfect double.
About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

🙂 I am charmed with your butterfly lake, double cake (!!), cats, and most of all pelicans. It’s so good to have you back in the game, Irene. How are you doing?

I’m good thanks Paula. Good to be back but I will still be a bit erratic as we still have so much going on and I’m still very slow on my feet. Still I am on my feet which is good.

What a great collection of doubles. I love the Alice in Wonderland garden. I hadn’t seen the butterfly lake before. Now it’s a favourite. The other doubles are great too. You did well to find them all.

Thanks Norah. The story book garden was a lovely find with characters from many of my favourite childhood reads.

Wow, you made my day! These are terrific, especially the butterfly lake. Very charming post, Irene!

Thanks Diane. Unfortunately you have to see the lake from the air to appreciate how much like a butterfly it looks. Glad you liked them.

Lovely doubles all of them, but my vote is for the cats 🙂

I’ll pass that on to the cats – I’m sure they’ll purr with joy when they hear they got a vote. 🙂
