About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Jockeys have to be weightless too.

An interesting collection of photos, Irene. I remember that trashing crash of tree. At least it made the final photograph and phrase possible. I do not like those machines!

I’m with you on the dislike of machines Norah. Roger keeps buying them. For years he did his treadmill religiously but I sold that machine when we moved up here and brought him another. He hasn’t done it since whether it is the heat or the machine just doesn’t suit him. We sell it and then before I know it we have another in the house. At the moment we don’t have any but he saw one at the tip and wanted me to get it for him for Christmas. I refused.

At the tip! Good for you! I do enjoy my Wii fit, though I haven’t used it for a while. I’ve been trying to swim most mornings since summer arrived. It is such a great way to start the day.

I liked my wii fit as well but like you I haven’t used it in ages (well to tell the truth probably 3 years). Perhaps that should go on gumtree as well. Good on you for swimming every morning. It would be a good way to start the day.

Swimming is lovely in summer. The Wii fit is better in winter. I wish that I could contract the exercise out though. I do enjoy the swimming but getting hot and sweaty is not something I enjoy!

Have you tried that exercise where you lie on the ground and put your feet up on the handlebars, thus providing a great rest for the book in your lap? Muffin might want to help.

She would love that exercise Sharon but I don’t know that I would. Mind you I’d enjoy settling back with a good book. Have a look at this for exercising whilst giving your child a lot of loving interraction. https://youtu.be/wJozWUluqoY

Wow! Those parents found a way to have fun, stay in shape, be involved with their child, and teach the little one that physical activity is a healthy way of life – genius!

I rather like the idea of recumbent sky-sailing. That’s my favorite of your shots in this series.

I wouldn’t have the courage to jump off the cliff. I’d be recumbent because I would have passed out in the process.
