This was the one I would have liked to play on. The bucking bronco looked like fun.

Some of the rides looked positively terrifying but all that ventured onto them seemed to have fun.

Went to the Orange County (Southern California) Fair last week. Noisy, crowded, smoky from all the BBQ stands, loads of fun, and yes, now that I think about it – riotously colored.

I think the colour gets you spending. I didn’t spend much but I did put my bids in on a silent auction for numerous holidays and bits and pieces. I did it because I was early in the day and was sure other people would come along and outbid me. When I added up what I could potentially have spent it made me feel sick. I spent the rest of the day panicking that I may win the lot. Luckily I didn’t win any.

I’ve done the same, bid early on an item assuming I wouldn’t win (at a school fund raising gala) just to get it rolling and then I did win. Ugh! Stuck paying for something I didn’t want and couldn’t afford. Taught me a lesson.

Poor you. I’ve learnt the lesson but didn’t have to pay to learn it luckily.

I’d love to see how long I could stay on but I probably wouldn’t be able to walk afterwards.

Haha…I tried one once in the States. Note, I said only once. And I lasted barely one second, if that 😀

I have never tried but I used to love body boarding.

Now that’s something I’ve never tried!

I guess much the same as surfing except that it is a small float (is probably the best description) varying from unsophisticated foam to ones with the works (wrist ropes, fins). The real difference is you catch the wave lying down and stay down. It can be terrifying as you go over the crest of the wave and head first down.

And now you have reminded me of something Irene as actually the kids used to go bodysurfing in CA come to think of it and I did try it once or twice, on one of those plain, foam bodyboards you describe. I was thinking of something different, don’t know why. Anyway, I do remember going through that crest of a wave and feeling elated that I got through the other side, but then getting back was quite another story…that’s why I only did it a couple of times 😮

I enjoyed the surf when I was younger, when I was older the sand in my pants annoyed me. Now I probably like the surf listening to the Beach Boys. 🙂

Haha…never pleasant that!!! Nor in your sandwiches 😉

But the ice cream after was worth it. Now I can have the ice cream when ever I want so I can do without the sand. 🙂

My grandfather and father both were bull riders. I remember an oil drum slung up with multiple ropes rigged as a makeshift bronc. My cousins and I played on it with no padding beneath! I rode steer in the rodeos but at least the arena dirt was soft clods and cow poop for a gentler, though stinky, landing!

I have seen drums as you describe on cattle stations out west. A good training ground for you as the real thing seemed so much easier to fall on. You are a brave woman Charli Mills.

I want to jump right in and have a go at all the fun they look like they are. Oh … but my weary bones say, ‘Nay’. I’ll enjoy the colors which are bright and cheery. My photographs were filled with beach colors, too. Congratulations – fellow winner for this week.

I’m with you in that I will just enjoy the colours. The bucking bronco has me itching to ride but like you the bones say nay. Congratulations on your win also Isadora.
