I scratched my head wondering how odd that the cake photographed in this fashion. What special effects had I used. All the other photographs had turned out as below.

It took me some time before I realised that the first photo was not the cake but rather a candle I had photographed. The birthday celebrations were being held in a gallery. There were many lovely items and several that were to my mind odd.

and one that was both odd and to me very disturbing.

I was not surprised on reading the tag that this bag baby which you could purchase for $900 AUD had been for sale in the gallery since 2010.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Thought that was a candle, the first one. Just hated the bag baby, can’t imagine any woman wanting such a hideous dead baby!

Yes that is what I thought with the first Barbara and couldn’t work out how I had achieved that colour effect. I totally agree with you and the bag baby. I find it more than a trifle disturbing that anyone would see this as art and as no-one has bought it I guess those that have seen it also agree.

I worked out it was a candle I had taken a photo of not a cake but it took me awhile.

Thought maybe you had used a closeup lens and photographed a candle on the cake! I agree – that baby bag is just gross!

Art is subjective…seems many have passed on the baby bag! I was trying to figure out your filter for the cake until you explained. 🙂

You are right that art is subjective. But some is to me disturbing. If I had to look at some pieces I would find myself having nightmares I’m sure.

Yes I find it creepy but the gallery itself had a real mix of which some are here. Thanks.

That bag baby is down right creepy, no wonder it is still up for sale! Fits the theme perfectly though! And you had me with the first photo Irene, definitely thought it was a cake. Nice one 🙂
