I’d seen a go-pro camera with its underwater casing and I deeply craved to have one of my own. Not to be. Instead Aldi came to the rescue with their own $49 version and these are some of my first photos taken with it. I loved the oily sheen the river gets when taken at this angle.

I don’t understand why my horizon is curved. To my knowledge it is not a fish eye lens. Perhaps it is some type of adjustment it makes to compensate for photos taken under the water. As it is it just looks odd ball.

Zac really enjoyed having his humans in the river with him and it was nice to look back and see what he normally sees.

Looking down was not such a pretty sight. Some strange grotesque bottom dweller.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
How I envy your warmer weather, It’s nasty up here in Vancouver right now ugh

Yes he would. He swim almost every day at the beach and then I dry him with a towel not to be sick by cold. It is also winter here and it is cold in the nights now.

I loved wallowing around not taking any care of my camera and looking back to shore rather than looking out longingly.

Glad there are no crocodiles Irene, or are you too far south? Interesting that the camera is changing the horizon, makes for interesting pictures!

Definitely too far south (for the moment). The furthest south they have been seen is in the Mary River which isn’t too far north from here . The Mary goes through Maryborough. I don’t understand why the horizon did that but it just added a bit more character to the photo.

Flat earth no longer! Stingers are moving south, so I suppose crocs could move south too!

With climate change and the earth heating anything is possible and probably likely.

Ha, ha–a strange bottom dweller is afoot in your river! What a fun camera. Ah, this makes me long for river swims but mine is glazed with ice and snow. Love that oil-painting look of the water up close.

I’m going to try the surf next. See what is lurking in there. Can you skate on your river? It is hard for me to imagine what it is like living in a long cold winter.

That foot was as strange as mine. 🙂
I like water shots too. You did a wonderful job on these.

Thanks Glynis. If your foot is that strange you have my sympathy. I know what it is like. 🙂
It was great fun taking these shots and I was really pleased with how they turned out in spite of the curve.
