I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Off Season
Travelling in Europe in the Off season gives you a different perspective. We travelled in the early spring before the summer holidays. The towns whose multiple car parks alert us that this is a tourist town are deserted of both … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Decaying in Da Nang
Da Nang sits in Central Vietnam 85 miles south of what was the border between South and North Vietnam. During the Vietnam War it was a major air base for the US and South Vietnamese forces that saw nearly 2,600 air … Continue reading
Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement at the Billy Cart Grand Prix
(7 photos) Receiving instruction At the start Movement begins. This is quite an incline. Continuing up the hill Where there is an incline there has to be a decline. Putting on the skids. Antimovement Repeating the course. My team now … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Cold
Parts of Australia can be cold, bitterly cold and more so when you are unprepared. It is hard to think cold when you live in the tropics. A similar problem to trying to decide what to eat for dinner when … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Travelling Reds
Travelling one always sees the unexpected such as this red bridge in Hanoi. Sometimes you travel by car. I was so proud of that red car – my first new car – I couldn’t stop driving and went everywhere. This … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Arranged
The Stonehenge is aged at around 3100BC and found in Wiltshire near the town of Avesbury. The site was opened, according to google, in 2000BC. In those days however you did not need to arrange a tour, you could wander … Continue reading
Weekly Photo Challenge: Fray in Vietnam
Life is tough on the Mekong and in Halong Bay for those who live there. Not only are clothes frayed but also the houses. The woven walls fraying, the window coverings fraying and the house itself sinking. At least those … Continue reading
Weekly Photo Challenge: Zig Zag
The number of zig zag roads I have travelled are numerous but due to an irrational fear of windy, narrow roads my tendency to photograph everything is stilled by fear when it comes to these occasions. There was the time … Continue reading
