I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Thursday’s Special: Street Portraiture in Vietnam
The peanut seller was happy smiling for a photo particularly as we stocked up on peanuts afterwards. The pollution meant that some portraits were hidden behind masks that were an attempt to filter the air that was being breathed. We … Continue reading

Thursday’s Special: Cloudscape
Clouds are a dangerous challenge for me as I love clouds and I could look through cloud photos and choose the lot because every cloud is beautiful, emotive and unique. How can you possibly choose just one. I can’t so … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Stories from the East
(7 photo stories) Paula’s guest challenger Allan Hamilton (The Mofman) asks us to show a story using one photograph. I had to many stories to tell so I have chosen 7 different stories. Can you tell the story that each photo shows? … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Opposites — The Old Bakehouse

Thursday’s Special: Water in Sydney City
Water is an important part of the city of Sydney’s landscape. It can be small — one of numerous small ponds and fountains to be found around the city’s walkways. Or it could be one of the larger although still … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Reflection where there should be shadow
Our dog walking park has become waterlogged. Today large puddles occupy the ground that normally is grass. The sight of this water takes a few years off the dogs as they can’t help but frolic in it, running and splashing … Continue reading
Thursday’s Special: Multitude
One night with a multitude of stars twinkling above us we stood on a bridge crossing one of the many waterways in our area and were entertained with a multitude of lights of a different kind. From out of the … Continue reading
