I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Mungo meets Trog: Trog and other Animals
I believed you couldn’t have a farm without a dog and started my plan of persuasion. Rod had not owned a dog before and, as we planned on having guests, he put the kybosh on me getting a German Shepherd Dog, … Continue reading
Snuffles: Trog and other Animals
There is no point being angry for long, I have discovered, as all you succeed in doing is getting a reciprocal anger back and Paul’s anger was always much more dangerous than mine ever was. So my up and down … Continue reading
Puppies: Trog and Other Animals
Sasha came into season and we started checking to see if she was ready to mate. By giving her a scratching type of pat near where her tail and body joined we could decide whether we should make a trip … Continue reading
Animals of my Dark Ages – Trog and Other Animals
Sammy survived until the ripe old age of sixteen cossetted and loved by Auntie Annie and my parents who retired and replaced Auntie Annie in her life as stay at home pets. I on the other hand was embarking into … Continue reading
Dad: Hopeless in Emergencies especially if blood was involved – Trog and other Animals
Sammy was an outside dog. My mother was adamant about that. Even when the dog developed a severe phobia after a palm frond fell on her head, my Mum did not relent. It was okay though because we were kids … Continue reading
Finally a dog: Trog and other Animals
I held my parents responsible for my forced move to the city. I made their life hell and the only way I would settle to Sydney living was if they would allow me to have a dog. The answer was … Continue reading
Trog and other Animals
Trog was wild: but she comes a bit later. This is the first in a series about the animals in my life. It will be in a new category of its own called Trog and other animals. I was always … Continue reading
Holidays at Grandma’s House – My First Fashion Purchase
We loved going with my Grandfather to the shops at Kingsgrove. Being country children the walk down the street, past all the red brick and tiled bungalows, gave us plenty to gawk at. Reaching the shops from the rear we … Continue reading
I repeated Kindergarten three times.
I commenced school very early in life. At three my parents enrolled me at Tamworth Church of England Girls’ School in Kindergarten. As my mother was getting bored at home and because the school required a latin teacher for their higher … Continue reading
