I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Trog and other Animals: Jerry and the cat attack
I took off on my usual route down Skye Road. I let the dogs off the lead as soon as we reached the school as from this point on the traffic was non-existent with only a few houses on … Continue reading
Trog and Other Animals: Home from Hospital
Jerry’s partial destruction of the fence meant the dogs were locked inside until it could be repaired. This didn’t worry them unduly as they tended to lie about where they could smell or see me and only if I was doing … Continue reading
Trog and Other Animals: The Collapse
Our pet life settled into a routine whilst we were at the shop. The chickens produced eggs as did the geese. These I sold in the shop. Trog, the cat, lived on top of the computer whilst the dogs mainly waited … Continue reading
Trog and Other Animals: Jerry – A protective scaredy cat
Continuing Trog and other Animals – a petmoir. Due to our time constraints working long hours in the shop Jerry did not undergo the socialization that Mungo had and being a dog with a more sensitive disposition, this created … Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Monument
We had headed for Alsace Lorraine as it was the originating area of German Shepherd Dogs. These dogs are also known as Alsations. There is no difference although many people believe they are different they are the same breed. Their … Continue reading
Phoneography Photo Challenge: The German Shepherd Dog convention.
Zac was lonely. It was as though dog owners in our town had all left, or knew something about the dog park that we didn’t. It seemed that everyone had deserted the park for the last two weeks. Zac was getting … Continue reading
Peace and Harmony: Trog and Other Animals
Mungo responded well to the glucosamine injections which I gave him once a month. I hated giving these needles which surprised me because as a nurse I had jabbed countless people without batting an eyelid. He was good though … Continue reading
We can’t wait two weeks: Trog and other Animals
Roger was inconsolable and watched Mungo liked a hawk for signs of deterioration. At every available moment Roger hugged Mungo as though he would never let him go. As a result Roger spent less time in the shop, having every … Continue reading
