That 180 degree head turn unnerved him. “Can’t you keep your head on the right way Tali. It’s a dead give away you’re not one of us.”

“You can talk Joel. You’re head over heels in love. We have a saying in my country; the man is the head of the family , the woman is the neck that turns the head only, I turn my own.”

In response to Sonya’s Three Line Tales

I don’t know whether anyone else saw it but as soon as I saw this photo I could see the face in the head staring back at me.

It may seem like they are there for ever

when you are getting work done

but really it is temporary

a short time no more.

Frequent visits to the art gallery are a definite must

Not only is it calming

The exhibitions are under constant change

constructed under the curators gaze

If only they could stay children for ever

I think my mother thinks I have

but in reality it’s a temporary state

as on their way to adulthood they make.

Fluffy white or black and grey

those exact same clouds are not here to stay

So much in life is transient,

including life itself

Every moment

Not lived as though it is your last

but savoured

for this moment

At this second

like this shadow

will never return again

A Day in the Life of Nanjo Castille: 99 word Flash Fiction

Nanjo stretches in the one room he shares with his mother and ten siblings. Rarely does he get to lie in past 5am.

“Nanjo. You get your good for nuttin’ butt in here NOW.” His mother’s voice is angry but weak from hunger. “We gotta clear out Choco Caramel, Coochi, Ralphiger and Verskatche today. You get your arse on the street and start sellin’.'”

“Ma I think Duparts will come through today.”

“Out!”

Nanjo stepped outside with his goods. He hated begging on the street corners. Preferred the internet.” Cameras whirred. Questions buzzed. Fame from form. “You give’em me bitchcoin.”

In response to Charli’s prompt where she asks:

November 9, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a fictional story about The Real Nanjo Castille. You can set any gender, era or genre to reveal the character behind the mystery. You can also imagine the daily life of The Real Nanjo Castille. Go where the prompt leads.

Respond by November 14, 2017 to be included in the compilation (published November 15). Rules are here. All writers are welcome!

Nanjo Castille entered the humorous competition and although it was realised that it was spam and his entry too long to qualify it caused some mirth amongst the Leaders of the various competitions. Nanjo wrote:

A Mother’s Sacrifice: SSS (Six Sentence Stories)

Mum would have been half baked if she hadn’t realised what Susan and I did every Thursday, but still she gave us all the ration cards which would entitle us to a loaf of hot, fresh bread. We ran to the bakery and slowly meandered home. As we went we made a small hole in the crust which we could get our grubby little fingers through sufficiently to pull out the soft warm doughy interior. We used a long twig to break up the bread that our small digits couldn’t reach, leaving barely enough for the rest of the family.

When Mum cut into the loaf we would protest that the baker had let too much air into the mix and Mum would nod as if in agreement. Her reaction delighted Susan and I  as we thought we’d fooled her until years later we discovered she happily starved herself to ensure we always had plenty to eat.

The North Face: Friday Fictioneers

“I’m going to climb the North Face of the Eiger.”

“Don’t be stupid. You’re not that good a climber.”

“Give me some moral support. I’m not asking you to climb it with me.”

“It’s just that so many people have died trying. The 1936 expedition five died, and there’s been  more than sixty since. Please don’t do it. I’m pregnant and I want the baby to know his Dad.”

“You’re what?”

“Pregnant.” Vanessa smiled .

Glen embraced her. “No I won’t go darling. Not now we’re going to be a family.”

Vanessa kissed him to arousal. She hoped she could conceive quickly.

Thank you for hosting Friday Fictioneers Rochelle and thank you to Marie Gail Stratford for the photo prompt.
