Cut and Colour: Three Line Tales

A layer of snow covered the ground when I emerged and I watched others, better prepared than I, continue to act as though this was just another day.

Their coats seem to be protecting them from the elements but mine was leaving me cold.

Perhaps I was just reacting to the hair cut and colour the woman had given me – it sure was a bad hair day.

I’m not sure what this is but I thought it was beautiful when I came across it on my dog walk.

The patient: Friday Fictioneers

Fran was allocated the new arrival in Bed 6.  Despite the handover she was unprepared for the stench that filled her nostrils on entering the cubicle. He lay, unconsious, in a foetal position. The pores of his skin black with inground dirt.

“He stopped washing two years ago.” A middle-age woman spoke, “He used to shower every day then every second day. When his shoulder froze, once a week. When Mum died the dirty language started and he stopped altogether.

The monitor unexpectedly flat lined. The woman begged, “Please don’t save him.”  Fran knew either way she’d have to wash him.

Thank you to Rochelle for hosting Friday Fictioneers and What’s his name for the photo prompt.

The indoor rowing mechanism in the boat Patrick Weinrauch and Paul McCarthy used in the 2001 Atlantic Crossing challenge in their boat Freedom. This took them 45 days making them the first Australians to row across the Atlantic.

On the Edge of a Raindrop: New Book by Sarah Brentyn

OnTheEdgeOfARaindrop_ad_2017

I have been waiting for a new book to come out by Sarah Brentyn since I read and reviewed Hinting at Shadows in February of this year. Now here it is and what could be better – for three days it is being offered on Amazon for the huge price of nothing. That’s right – nothing at all and if it is anything like her first selection of short fiction it will be a collection to savour. I will review it when I have read it but it will be too late for this initial offer. Happy reading.

Weekend Coffee Share 26th November 2017

wordswag_15073188796611453091488

Welcome and come on in. Let’s get settled with a cup of tea or coffee and then we’ll chat. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the States. I hope your day was filled with happiness, family, friends and lots of delicious food.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that yesterday I did my Silver Star Modern Ballroom exam and for the first time that I remember I tasted fear. By the time I had watched other people in my class do their moves which I didn’t recognise as any that I knew, I had a complete brain wipe and the bile rose with my panic. I felt sorry for my dance partner as I was sure my breath smelt like the bottom of a cocky’s cage – it sure tasted like one. Luckily I was dancing with my teacher who is skilled in both leading  round the floor and quelling the nerves of those he danced with. He did a great job as I ended up to my surprise with an A for quickstep and an A- for waltz, tango and foxtrot. Considering the marks go to C- and A+  I was thrilled with mine. I received a trophy and my report card. Sadly these days in photos I always seem to look like a giant. Could be a New Years resolution coming up.

I thoroughly enjoyed my week with my friend although the weather didn’t do us any favours. We had a few hours of blue sky and that was it. She left on Thursday morning and it cleared in the afternoon. Still we got to do a few things such as go to Noosa Spit and lots and lots of chatting. I just love it with friends that you haven’t seen for a long time yet you can pick up as though it was yesterday that you last spoke.

In my spare time I have been working on a project for the university which I am really enjoying. It involves a bit of research and writing but I’ll talk about that at another time. I have finished the book I was reading and will review it during the week. I have started reading “The Dry” by Jane Harper. I’m not far enough into it to form an opinion yet. No time to go to the movies or to do much else. Took Mum for lunch on Friday and we went to Doonan Cafe where we can take the dogs so we all had a nice day.

Now it is your turn. How was your week? Has your weather been warmer/colder, wetter/drier. Have you read any good books or seen any good films?  Thank you for dropping in for coffee, it is lovely to see you. Thanks to our host eclecticali  who is our host of the weekend coffee share.
