I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Sue, this week’s host, has asked that we look at current pastimes – things we have taken up in this time of enforced home isolation. For me my pastimes have remained the same as they were prepandemic. I had thought … Continue reading
From Sweet to Foul and everything inbetween: Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge
Some foods have your mouth watering long before you see them – the aroma wafting to you on the breeze. Coffee – my favourite smell in the early morning. The coffee roasting however, makes me think of waffles. The … Continue reading
The Theban Necropolis, Ancient City of Thebes and Karnak and Luxor Temples: Travel Thoughts 10
Luxor had none of the hustle and bustle and pure busyness of Cairo which we had left in the early hours of the morning. Driving through the town I felt this was a place that I could return and … Continue reading

Time Stopped and then it stopped for Everyone
Have you ever stopped doing something and then found it hard to restart? Time stopped for me in 2019 and getting going again has proved harder than I imagined. My last post at the beginning of June 2019 was not … Continue reading

Thanks to Ann-Christine for hosting this weeks Lens-Artists Challenge A small flower – delicate, fragile but sometimes looks can be deceiving – the will to survive in any crack or cranny may show a strength that belies the delicacy we … Continue reading
