I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Christmas’s Past:Four to Eleven
This morning I visited Diane from Still the Lucky Few who reflects on life as a Senior. She was born into the generation before the Baby Boomers – The Silent Generation. This group was born between 1926 and 1945 and … Continue reading
Focussing on Eyes: Weekly Photo Challenge
Closeups of eyes can be problematical as they seem to have a flickering life of their own. My nephew, however, was well practiced at the stare. Zac too would focus but his were covered by his hairy brows Most cities … Continue reading
R.I.P. Zacky – my faithful friend
This morning Zack had a large bleed and we had no choice but to say goodbye to our dear friend. Zack came to us as an older dog (6) with a myriad of problems. He’d had a lovely younger life … Continue reading
An Unexpected Absence: The Unforgettable 70th Birthday
Roger (my husband) turned 70 last Sunday 8th March. Not being a cook or a good housewife I baulked at the thought of organising a party but on the 27th March I thought I could not let this auspicious occasion … Continue reading
Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: The boys in their underpants
Gone are Zac’s debonair wolf-like looks and Bundy’s hippy locks. Coiffed and pampered returning with Christmas scarves. Zac asked for his to be removed immediately. Bad enough, he intimated, to be seen in public almost naked let alone wearing a Christmas … Continue reading
Bite Size memoir No.11: Holiday Reads
Books have always been a large part of my family life. My parents were both avid readers and I can remember the regular parcels coming from James Thin Edinburgh with first editions of novels for my father long before the … Continue reading
Timbergetters, Forebears, Water and BOTS
When we had the farm we became interested in the history of the area and soon realised that my forebears were instrumental in the upstream country where logging the timber with the bullock teams was the main activity. It must … Continue reading
