Does anyone know what these are? When I saw the bulbs starting to leaf and flower stalks coming I thought clivea but these are not clivea. Some type of lilly perhaps. I’d love to know.

We call this flower Amaryllis and people buy them in the winter and have them indoor, otherwise they don’t survive. This one is beautiful, Irene 🙂

Thank you Irene. I have heard of Amaryllis but didn’t know what they looked like. I had thought before the flower spike that they were going to be clivea but then the flowers opened and I knew it wasn’t. We are lucky – this one is in the garden, planted by the previous owner and obviously very happy. You don’t know when I should cut the leaves back – I can look it up, just being lazy.

The flower is from a huge bulb and after the flowers are ended, it needs time to suck the energy from the flowers inside. Then it will hang and you can cut it.
We call it also The 4 World Corners, because they use to get 4 flowers, unless they have been manipulated. Then they can have from 3 to 6 flowers. Enjoy the beauty.

Thanks Irene. The first flower stem has fallen and did have 4 flowers on it. I have three more about to open. I am definitely enjoying the beauty.

I agree. Now I know what they are I’ll look up and see what care I am supposed to give them. They are in the garden so I think possibly as little care as possible is the way to go.

Love the way you pull your camera in and out allowing us to focus on different aspects of the flower. You do this very well with other flowers and trees.
