This was such a desolate spot and the stone markers, no matter what their purpose, led a decidedly spooky feel to the place. Maybe not spooky so much as spiritual in some strange way.

Sort of a non-permanent footprint – “I was here and saw the beauty but this is the only mark I’m leaving and it will go away soon.” As my dad used to say – “Don’t leave any trash behind.”
