Welcome to a beautiful blue winters day that has been quite warm during the day but now the sun is setting the night chill is settling on the air. Although there is nothing I like more than heat I do enjoy a winter’s night spent cocooned in cosiness in the lounge room. It is the only room in the house that we heat and so in winter I spend a lot of my evenings there instead of in the office. As a result, you’ve probably guessed I don’t spend as much time in the evening on the computer.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that not only do I spend less time at the computer in the evening, in the morning it is not light until after 7am and it is too cold to get out of bed willingly even if I were awake. As a consequence I have lost my 4am to 7am time that I did a large amount of my work. Not only that but we have decided the time has come for us to move and downsize. Roger has been waiting until my studies were completed but now we are trying to make use of the lull before my thesis is returned to get the house in order to put it on the market. We hope to do this by the end August beginning of September. That takes care of the days so that explains why I am not around as much as I had thought I would be now that I theoretically was going to have time on my hands.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that we had our general election for our Federal Parliament yesterday. The result remains unknown but there is no doubt that there was a definite protest vote against our current team. Counting does not resume until Tuesday so there is going to be a delay before knowing the result as it is far too close to call. I have to admit I love these upheavals like Brexit and our election. Things happen when the extraordinary happens and contrary to what the media would have you believe — the world as we know it is not going to end. Mind you I am hoping that the result in the United States later this year does not go in one direction. Mostly I think that once in power there is little that a party/ prime Minister/ President can do to rock the boat but in the case of one of the US candidates I am not too sure.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you thatI am excited because on Tuesday my brother arrives from Switzerland for a three week visit. He won’t be with us all that time as he is planning to take the boys to Fraser Island and one of the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. It will be so much fun to have my brother and his boys visit and they are easy guests to have stay.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that today a new Times Past prompt went up today on the theme of Toys I still have or wish I still had from my childhood. Already there has been a wonderful response from Deborah whose parents gave her toys that would make her proud of her heritage.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that Muffin has gained her level 1 certificate in dog training. We were lucky on Wednesday night to get an individual lesson as the head trainer was putting a new trainer through her hoops and Muffin was the guinea pig. She did really well and really benefited from that personalised attention. She is becoming very response to my commands and mostly can drag herself away from play to obey.

It’s funny how cautious you are in talking about American politics. Everyone over here is quite loud about the situation. I share your concern. The Comb Over has divided this country in a frightening, hateful way. I dislike change that I don’t think will bring improvement, and I believe a thoughtful, researched approach brings better results for most people.

I guess I am trying not to be to inflammatory as I don’t really want to get into a battle on my blog over politics. I do hope enough of your countrymen share your concern. I think the divide is frightening and the fact that someone like Trump is appealing to the worst side of people in much the same way that Hitler probably did in his early days. I think what Britain has shown, along with the States and our own election result is that people are sick of economics as the platform for running a campaign and it is now time to seriously look at the kind of society we want to live in. And as far as I’m concerned that society would deliver peace for all people and leave no-one feeling disenfranchised to the extent that they feel the need to join extremists to feel part of a society.

I look forward to your coffee articles, Irene. Of all of your posts, it’s my favorite. As you talk about the weather getting colder, we are entering our summer, although this year, I wonder if warm weather will ever come! You say that you are thinking of downsizing—so many of the bloggers I read (and friends here) are doing exactly that! Some are just thinking about it, and some are already done. What a huge project, and one that will take over your life for awhile! Take it slowly, and be sure you look after yourself during the entire process. About politics, I agree change can be good. But our neighbors to the south (USA) are very worried about the changes they may have soon, and they should be! We certainly are!

Glad you enjoy the coffee posts. I find it to be a good process reflecting on the week that has been. Hope it is warming up for you a little Diane. My brother arrived with his kids today from Switzerland to a wet cold day. I felt for them leaving their summer but tomorrow is supposed to be great and today they have already retired due to jetlag.
Unfortunately downsizing is something I guess we all end up doing. It is taking up all of life at the moment as I had let things go while I was working on my thesis. I’ll be glad when it is all done.
I worry about Trump as well. I just hope that those voting use their power wisely.

We are currently downsizing and it makes me consider seriously whether I will really need the object in the next house. It is very freeing as I have many years of things that I rarely use and I am sure someone else may have a greater need for them. Good luck with your moving timeline.

Hope your downsize goes well. I am still at the daunting stage and hope to reach the freeing stage in the near future. I can see life will be so much easier with fewer possessions.

How refreshing to read someone who doesn’t think a ‘too close to call’ election is the end of the world. I too think such a result can lead to a necessary shake-up in our political system. Love your sharing coffee format.

Thanks Maureen. Glad you think that way also. There are probably many of us that do but it suits the media to create a tale of doom and disaster and to spin it out for as long as possible. Yes I love sharing coffee too. I like the informality of it – as though you really are having a coffee and chat.
