Breakfast and work begins. I usually start with pumpkin porridge which I find just so yummy. This week I was lucky that the book I am reading has a partially green cover.

I love looking out my loungeroom window past the orange and green fish to the green foliage in the pond beyond. It always makes me feel peaceful.

An unusual orange bougainvillea contrasts with the dark green of its older leaves.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Such a wonderful selection for this week. Thanks Irene. 😀

Especially love the orange bougainvillea, a very unusual shade. I like the coral ones too.

I like all bougainvillea – it has that exotic tropical feel about it.

Pumpkin porridge! I’ve never heard of that. Must try it some time.
When I saw the title “Orange and Green” I thought it was going to be about the troubles in Northern Ireland so was relieved and surprised to find a more pleasant topic.

LOL I’m glad I don’t have photographs of those troubles. Pumpkin porridge I find yummy. Recipe 200g cooked mashed pumpkin, 1 tbsp tahini, 1 tbsp coconut, 1tbsp raisins, 1/2 tsp vanilla , 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Mix together. That serves me for probably three breakfasts. Heat in microwave to the temperature you like. I do mine for about 50 secs to 1 min but it depends on your oven. If you want it sweeter you can put in a tsp honey or maple syrup but I find that too sweet so I don’t.

Thanks Irene. That sounds very interesting. Pumpkin is quite sweet so it may not need anything else. The raisins and coconut would add sweetness too. The cinnamon would give it a little extra. Yum.
