If We “Were Having Coffee” Firstly I’d say I was glad to meet you all. I have come via Deb from My Weary Mind and although, since going on the paleo diet around fourteen weeks ago, I only drink one cup of coffee per day there is nothing I like more than a chat with a cup of peppermint tea in hand whilst others have coffee. I breathe in the aroma of it and feel very satisfied and peaceful.
Then I’d tell you that I suddenly realised why we don’t call Autumn Fall in Australia. When I prepared my Silent Sunday photo Fallen Leaf I wanted to call it simply Fall but knew that this would make those in the Northern Hemisphere think it was autumn where here this is spring fall. In the colder parts of Australia leaves fall in preparation for winter hibernation but up here in the north it is the winds that come in Spring that create most of our leaf fall. We know summer is not far away once those winds hit.
I’d also tell you that finally, on the day due, I submitted my chapter for the book. I wasn’t happy with the end of it but boy was I filled with joy that finally (until it comes back to me with comments to address) it was out-of-the-way. I could finally get on with the next thing. I have felt a little buoyed all week as I also received back my exegesis and my supervisor has told me that although I am taking a risk she feels it works. Yeah! This means I can see an end in sight and that is reason to celebrate.
But the most exciting news I would tell you is today we picked up our new puppy, Muffin. Thanks to some advice from Deb we bought a crate and she slept happily in it for the journey home. Bundy welcomed the new puppy but was soon sick of how full on she was . Hopefully they will become good pals. Hopefully Roger and I will cope with a puppy. We had hoped to get another rescue dog that was older but for some reason the rescue agencies ignored our applications and from the local RSPCA all we could get were huge dogs, dogs that have a reputation for being pugnacious or little teeny dogs like chihuahas or yappy ones. Still I am (at the moment ) totally besotted by our new bundle of fur and am looking forward to puppy training sessions and lots of time playing with her.
Thanks for hosting the weekend coffee Diana.
Enjoyed this cup with you.

I’d forgotten how full on it is and how much they widdle. The fun will come. She is quite adorable. Sadly, so far Bundy is petrified of her.

I’ve never done the Weekend Coffee Shares but see them all over the blogosphere. I don’t know what I’d write… Hmm. Maybe. Anyway, I will drink some peppermint herbal tea with you (one of my favorites), then congratulate you on submitting that chapter, then it’s possible I might be rude and ignore you the rest of the time while I played with that ADORABLE PUPPY! 😀 He’s so cute, Irene! Enjoy your newest family member.

I didn’t know what to write either but putting a friend on the other side of the table and having a one sided conversation, without all the deviations of normal chatter, it was reasonably easy. Yes the puppy is adorable and is going to be fun.

Welcome to the Weekend Coffee Share, Irene. I’m currently enjoying the coffee but drink decaf tea much of the day.
Muffin is gorgeous! We have two dogs: Bilbo, a Border Collie, is 9 and Lady, a Border Collie x Cavalier is 3. We adopted Lady last year as Bilbo wasn’t looking very well and we lost our last BC when he was 8. We have two kids and we thought having an overlap would be good. As it turned out, Bilbo lost about 15 kilos since Lady arrived and has been quite mobile and energetic again. Lady has put on some of that weight and we have no idea where she’s getting the food from. She looks like she’s been spending lunchtimes up at the school!
I am also working in the memoir motivational area as well as working on some stuff for kids.
Good to see another fellow Aussie here by the way!
I have offered Vegemite toast on here before but didn’t get a lot of takers. Meanwhile the dog is scoffing down Vegemite sandwiches with his tablets. He’s had a nasty flea allergy and was off to the vet.

Glad to meet you Rowena. We got Bundy a resucue dog when our german shepherd Zac was twelve and showing signs of age. We thought the same that it would be nice to have a cross over period and it might just perk Zac up. It did just that and he survived another year and a bit. Now Bundy is missing the company so unable to find a suitable rescue dog we got Muffin. So far Bundy doesn’t quite know how to cope with her but I think in a few days he will have laid a few ground rules.
There aren’t too many Aussies on here as for some reason Blogger seems to have most Aussies preference although I don’t understand why as it seems much less user friendly. I’m in Qld but will accept vegemite toast except that on paleo I no longer eat bread. Vegemite on finger will be fine. See you soon.

Our dog has been having his tablets in Vegemite sandwiches, which has been such a relief. As you’d appreciate, dogs and pills aren’t a good mix. Good luck on the paleo. xx Rowena

I have just read that he is recovering which is great. I had a German Shepherd who would just eat anything I told him to and another that it was a nightmare. I should have used the vegemite. Paleo is going well. Cheers Irene

My husband, who isn’t a Vegemite lover, thinks it’s a great use for the stuff. Cheers, Rowena

You answered my question about how Muffin was doing in her new home! How’s the Paleo diet doing? You don’t look like you need to lose weight at all – is it something to make your GI system happier?

I went on it mainly to lose weight (which I have) but I have also felt fantastic on it and not hungry at all so plan on continuing it indefinitely. I don’t stress if I go out and don’t eat paleo food so I am not a fanatic about it but at home I stick to it.

It was great to have coffee with a new friend! By the way, I love peppermint tea. I would have that over coffee, sometimes. As we head into our cold season here in Oregon I will be consuming a lot of peppermint tea. I’m all stocked up on it! See you next time.

Nice to meet you Corina. It has been lovely to be welcomed so warmly. Yes we are heading into summer here so I’ll probably drink a lot more water as you sip on your peppermint tea. See you next week.

Irene, it’s a pleasure to share a cup of coffee-tea with you, and glad to know your academic program is going well. Just as much fun to read all the comments from your other followers.

I love the comments also. you do feel as though you have had a cup of coffee with a group of friends and you’ll be hopefully reading more of them if they’ll have me back.

How nice that you turned your book chapter in! I’m sure your peer review will go well. Having done medical writing for pharmaceutical companies, I know what a brain twisting process it can be to try to write what you THINK they want. It’s wonderful they wanted you for your own distinctive writing voice and experience! I too have realized I have a multi-hemisphere audience — I tried to accurately convert a recipe to metric for those outside the U.S. Hope it works out if anyone dares to try it! Have fun with your new puppy!

Thanks for dropping by Nooce. It was a great relief to get that chapter off. It sounds like you know what it is like. I daren’t even look at your recipe– just looking at those treats on the table was enough for me to put on a few pounds. Someone is sure to try it though. You sound as though you have a good writing group. They are invaluable. The puppy is giving us a lot of pleasure and the work of her isn’t as onerous as I had expected.

It’s such a good feeling to come to a point of completion even though there might be future tweaks. And Muffin is adorable! She actually looks sleepy in that photo. Poor Bundy! He’ll adjust and appreciate the zest in his life. 🙂

It was a relief to get it in. I feel now that there is an end in sight. I just have to be careful that I don’t relax into it too much. Bundy has become an upper level living dog for the last two days as he has maintained his distance from her sharp little teeth (she goes straight under him for a teat and of course he has other appendages that she thinks will do) but I came home from the race today and he is on the floor with her growling whenever she comes too close. She obviously learnt quickly as she is giving him some distance. Perhaps we are already returning to normal.

Loved having coffee with you Irene, I have one a day too in the mornings 🙂 So happy for you wtih the submission of your chapter, and such great writing news all round, yay indeed! Such a relief, and now, as you say, you can focus on spending all that wonderful time with your darling little Muffin. Strange the rules they have about adoption…we ran into that years ago, when my son was little. The RSPCA refused saying we wouldn’t be able to house train a dog (we lived in a flat). We got a mix lab/collie from the paper in the end, and trained her pefectly, she lived with us for 14 long happy years 🙂 And thank you for educating me about your ‘spring fall’..I had no idea! I hope you spent the weekend celebrating! 😀 ❤
