I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Is she calling a shadow cab?

LOL. No I think she has seen a friend on the other side of the road.

A hello from the past. Such an interesting juxtaposition.

This town was totally demolished in an earthquake in 1931. The entire town was built in the art decco style and I think (but I could be wrong) that it is the one town in the world that is art decco only where other towns already had most of their buildings and only a smattering of new ones built during the period.

That’s fascinating – great city planning by politicians who worked together for the betterment of the community – now that’s a fresh idea. Where is this town?

The town is in the North Island of New Zealand. Sorry I have taken so long to reply Sharon.

Glad to hear from you – I’ve missed your almost daily presence in my life and hope that you are well and happy. Working hard on your academics?

An interesting statue. An even more interesting shadow. I don’t think I would have noticed if you hadn’t drawn my attention to it. Thanks.

Writing I find has my attention drawn to people watching and listening that otherwise I would probably have ignored otherwise. Photography makes me notice detail that otherwise may be noted but would quickly be forgotten.
Sorry Norah at how long it has taken me to respond.

That’s okay. I have missed you. I hope everything is okay?
It sounds like the combination of writing and photography increases your attention to what is around you.

Yes because it makes you look at items outside the square, at the different angles and at the light. Even though in reality I am a point and shoot photographer I do take these things into account. One day, when I have more time I am going to devote a day a week or something to having a day by myself and photographing everything. Sounds like total bliss to me.

I hope that day of total bliss is not too far away! Enjoy! 🙂
