Brisbane Town Hall is an imposing building especially when seen lit up at night. It rivals its European counterparts shown below.

Our own Town Hall is a much less imposing structure but the community good will it engenders is massive. Here we are raising the flag after successfully campaigning to get our council back after the government had merged us with the Maroochy Council making the mega council of Sunshine Coast Council. Our two council areas were at opposite ends of the spectrum with the south wanting development and high rise, whilst Noosa’s interest was sustainability, environment and low development only. Here Noosa Council flag is again raised at the Town Hall.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
American town halls are far less grand, especially in the newer cities which are mostly home construction companies that built out to the edges of their purchased properties, and when every lot had been sold, untying the mooring and setting the new cities “free” – to figure it out on their own. Adds new meaning to the phrase, “If you love it, set it free.” LOL
Your photos of these elegant old buildings are wonderful.

An interesting reflection on your new housing cities. It is probably the same in Australia. Our capital cities all have grand town halls but the newer towns are more functional buildings and nowhere near as grand.
Glad you enjoyed the variety I found on my travels.

Actually, I am so envious of all the traveling you do. We rarely travel and I go places mostly through other people’s blogs.

I’ve found its a good way to travel too – there are many places that I have never been and some I never will get to. I’m glad to have you in my blog travel bag though. Its great to have company.

Nice collection! Town Halls are most of the time impressive buildings – at least the old ones.

I agree. There is so much history shown in them of the local area both in art works, murals and photos and the buildings themselves can be quite superb.
