The wood on this house has certainly weathered as has the iron covering its roof. It is not abandoned, derelict or condemned judging by the washing hanging on the line at the back and the car parked in its drive.

Dead wood weathering in the woods where it had once lived.

The rails of the pig coralle not quite weathered, barely seasoned as the bark is still to fall off some of the logs but before long it will be weathered.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
A wonderful collection of weathered wood photos.
My favourite is Definitely the one of the dog with the pig under the umbrella. An amazing shot – I love it and keep returning to your post to have another look!

The the harvested wood on the Mekong River. My favs are the close-ups and the twisted trunk in the water. Great shots.

That tree has proved to be interesting. It has become a breeding ground for fish and it is now teeming with fry. The snakes also enjoy sunning themselves on it and bit by bit it is getting smaller as it weathers and people pull bits off to throw sticks for their dogs. The close-ups show a great texture. 🙂

These are beautiful photos, Irene – some should definitely go on a wall. You have Tazmanian devils there? Always wanted to see one!

Yes you have probably heard of Steve Irwin who was killed by the stingray. I believe he and his daughter Bindy are both well known in the States. As well as crocodiles they look after other endangered species and have a breeding program which they are quite successful. Their zoo “Australia Zoo” is superb with great habitats for the animals is quite close to us so it is a place we go when we have children or overseas guests.

Wondeful selection of wood photos Irene…fascinated by the creature, is it what you call a Tasmanian Devli? That is certainly something we don’t see here as you know, so I’m intrigued 😉

Thanks Sherri, A visit down-under is required to see the Devil although perhaps London zoo has some? Depends how long a walk you want. 🙂
