Cee’s Fun Foto prompt for more feet and shoes.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Your photograph collection must be amazing! Do you have them tagged and indexed or otherwise organised Irene, to be able to respond with so many appropriate shots?! Lxx

    • Since digital became my medium I have a good memory for events and I can lay my hands on things quickly. This prompt I had to stop myself. Sometimes I search for ages and can’t find the one photo I know I have and is THE one that is perfect for the prompt. It doesn’t happen often though. When it comes to pre digital I have boxes full of photos and not shoe boxes. I have some in albums also and they are easier. When I have the time the plan is to scan all into the computer. When I know the photo I want is hard copy that becomes a real effort to find it. I can waste a lot of time with photographs. Tagging and indexing these might be a good idea. 🙂

My hard copies are in chaos(in large boxes!) I sometimes have nightmares about a house fire and trying to save the photographs! Before I was ill we spent January picking the best 300 of the previous year and sticking them into an album. Since then however they’re still in their packets, in boxes and since computers in chronological order but there are loads you might otherwise discard that clog the search task! There never seems time to do more, does there!?

      • You sound like me. I have started getting books made. I have decided that photos themselves deteriorate over time and have now published (only for myself) ten books of the best of certain events. But you are right there just isn’t enough time.

  6. Much fun, these photos! Someplace on Internet is a site devoted to images exactly like your last one – feet spread in front, pointing at something, and no other indication of locale. Don’t know if I could find it again.
