Lovely photos. Sunflowers are one of my favourite, we used to grow them in California and I don’t think anything means summer to me more than they do. Great quote too. Have a great day my friend…I’m signing off now so see you tomorrow 🙂

If this was a commercial field, at what point do they get … ehrm … used ? I mean, is it once the flowers have disappeared totally and there are only seedheads left ?

I think these were just wild but I think it is after the flower dies that they collect the seeds but I don’t know for sure.

No I love you making me put my thinking cap on. I think when you stop being inquisitive you might as well be dead – so ask on M-R. Throw the really curly ones at me. 🙂 Your break starts tomorrow so happy writing. Look forward to your return. Take care Irene

There’s something about sunflowers that’s inherently uplifting – they turn and follow the sun during the day, which is amazing.

Do you remember the book Day of The Triffids about carnivorous plants? It was required reading when I was in high school. At the same time we were reading this book, my father had inadvertantly planted these mutant sunflowers that became significantly bigger than he was expecting. There were HUGE and quite frankly, a little scary … or maybe it was just me from reading about triffids. In my defense, even our dog wouldn’t go out in the backyard.
That’s just a long way to say, sunflowers still always remind me of triffids. Don’t get too close. They bite. 😉

Yes I remember it – I too had to read it at school. I can just see those mutant sunflowers and the fear of the triffids. You’ve bought to mind also Audrey from the Little Shop of Horrors. I’ll never look at sunflowers in the same way again. LOL

I knew that sunflower leaning over the fence reminded me of something. I reread the triffid book not long ago. 🙂
