Four Photographs from Vietnam/Cambodia – all with a bit of added extra.
Any photographs I take of places such as Ta Prohm Temple in Cambodia (where a scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed) I avoid having people in the frame. I like to feel as though I was the only person there. This means arriving before the crowds or after they have left. Here they are departing and future photos of this area are devoid of people. The people however are not the extras in this photograph but rather the red scaffolding which does not add to the photo but that I admit at the time I did not notice as the ancient buildings and trees took all my attention.
The shrine inside a temple at Angkorr Watt is the subject of this photo. The monkey in the foreground an added extra.
I can’t swear that I would have taken this photograph had Mickey not been there as it struck me as incongruous for Buddah and Mickey to be placed together in this fashion in a park on the Mekong River but it certainly added extra interest to the scene.
As the World Cup starts in Brazil my husband who is an avid soccer fan (he is English and I think it is in his genes) this photo is most appropriate. We were in a small town in the highlands in Vietnam. We were the only tourists to be seen. Having wandered the two streets poking into all the local shops we had wandered back to the local guest house which was fairly rudimentary but to Roger’s delight in reception was an added extra. A television but even better the show being aired was the Premier League Soccer.

Oh what is it about Brits and their football? I am NOT a fan, you’ll be relieved to know Irene! Memories of my dad watching Tottenham Hotspur, yelling at the screen every Saturday growing up, and then the football pools…now my boys love it and hubby too!! I bet your husband couldn’t get over it, finding not only the TV but the soccer playing too, haha 🙂
Fantastic photos, love that cheeky monkey, and the first shot, when I saw it, reminded me of a movie set and that was before I read what you said about Indiana Jones (love those films!)! What a fascinating place Vietnam and Cambodia would be to visit. Thanks for the great share and take on this ‘extra’ challenge Irene!
Hope you are having a lovely weekend my friend 😀

He was up on the roof this morning fixing the antenna as the channel that was showing the England vs Italy game was suffering from the weather.
I don’t watch sport – if I can’t play I’m just not interested but I do enjoy my husband watching the football. He was a Brighton supporter and he hasn’t got over the shouting and the singing. To watch and listen to him in the living room gives me a great belly laugh.
Hope your weekend is turning out okay as well.
Cheers Irene 🙂

Now that is dedication!!! Such a small world, as you know my history with Brighton and my boys living down there. They play Yeovil (where we live) sometimes too. You will have to tell your hubby that I lived in Ipswich when they won the FA Cup in 1978…all the blokes spilling out from the pubs kissing all the girls (I was 18!) and also that I got to meet Bobby Robson, twice! Even got to shake his hand and everything. And to think, I don’t even like the game, haha!!!! Still, Sir Bobby was a great man…
Sport, the only one I like to watch is Wimbledon, which I’m hooked on. So my blogging might suffer in a couple of weeks!!!
A nice, quiet weekend thanks Irene…still now news so all on hold…
Here’s to a good week ahead for us both… hugs to you my friend, and thank you for your lovely message, to which I’ll reply asap… ❤

Each of your selected pictures are really interesting, but the first one intrigues me the most. Are those tree roots on the right hand side? Wow!

Yes they are tree roots Joanne. This 12th century temple was totally covered by jungle when it was decided to conserve it early in the 21st century. It is UNESCO listed. The trees are phenomenal and many of the buildings look as though they are being consumed by the tree roots which grow over and through the structures strangling them with their grip. Just an amazing place.
