Weekly Photo Challenge: Work of Art

Art is everywhere. Hanging on our walls, placed in gardens, sometimes, when you least expect it such as these bananas baked in the car then placed artistically. Okay, I know I’m probably the only person who look upon my bananas as an artform. We were very proud of our works of art which we displayed on completion of the term when we did our grad cert in creative industries.

The best art in my opinion is what we are given as the backdrop to our daily activities. The art provided by nature. The superb colour palette displayed to our never-ending wonderment.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

  2. Nature’s got it all over paintings – you just have to really see it! Loved the post – I need to appreciate what we’ve had hanging on our walls for years. I did use one painting as an inspiration for a short story.

    • Yes, the thing with nature it is a different picture every day even if the man made parts don’t change. I was part way through your post about your next book and the research you did at the sail makers loft when I got called to dinner. What I have read so far I imagine gave you a great deal of inspiration. Your description of how his walls were decorated gave me a wonderful visual picture.

I’m kind of partial to the 1st bunch of slides. I get caught up in how the artist could do such beautiful work.

Great take on this week’s challenge Irene, and your bananas do look rather artistic I must say! Love the peacock and the sunsets… 🙂

    • Thanks Sherri. With the bananas I was so impressed with the delineation between black and yellow after they had accidentally been forgotten and left in the car to bake. The camera came straight out and I photographed a series with the bananas place in all kinds of angles and positions. One day they may be classified as Irene’s banana period. 😀
