The horse rider was totally unaware that we were having a picnic in the paddock when she came down to the river’s edge to water her horses

This family was oblivious to all but the pelicans.

The fire alarm went off and the building evacuated. We stood at our evacuation point waiting for roll call and the signal that all was clear. It was a strange crowd that day as the nursing school had employed a group of actors to make the practical session for the day just a little more realistic. All were caught on camera unawares.

This gun-toting babe with her hot pink phone certainly had no idea that her backside would be appearing for public scrutiny as she bought her buns at Jasper’s bakery.

And yes – I was caught unawares as I ate ice cream with my fingers. No time to remove the evidence from my nose.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Great show of life on the run, some eccentric looking people . Were they face masks or for real?

If they were real I wouldn’t have posted them. I believe they were trialling some new type of costume/disguise/skin cover. I surreptitiously looked without taking photos until I overheard they were actors. Then I felt free to take my pics. Gave me something to do whilst we wasted 3/4 hour on a false alarm.

You’re terrific with a camera – maybe a little dangerous!

Thanks Sharon. I am sensitive however of peoples feelings – I have many that should not see the light of day (and they won’t.)

I didn’t intend that last comment to be critical – you are always sensitive to the feelings of others, in what you write and what you photograph. Selection is key – what to hide, what to reveal. You do a great job.

I knew you weren’t being critical Sharon but I do have some doozies that will never see the light of day that would have been perfect for that challenge theme. Thank you and I’m glad you enjoy my images and writing. XD

Very nice, Irene. Spontaneous photos are so much fun! I liked the pelicans challenging the young boy – looking for fish?

Yes I think the pelicans recognise a fishing rod and believe as fish are so plentiful in the river he is sure to have some easy tidbits for them.

You’ve captured some interesting moments there, Irene. I’ve seen the buns of the bun buyer before, I think, but the ice-cream licker’s my pick! 🙂

Good memory Norah. Thanks. I was caught mouthful, hand ful and dollop on the nose. Not a pretty sight hand eating tub ice cream. Shows an addict I think.

Yes. One always likes to be caught eating! Not! 🙂

Believe it or not in my local bakery where we have coffee at the end of our dog walk every day. Hard to believe you’d see that in Australia. I was so stunned I had to shoot.
